My Professor said that they don't make muscle cars anymore, do you agree?

I wrote a paper for my composition class comparing the "big 3", and I referenced Muscle Cars. Well I got the paper back today, and she made a side note that said "No one has made a true muscle car in years."

Do you agree?

i dont agree. i think these cars (camaro/mustang/challenger) are just modern muscle cars at their finest. now, they are worlds apart technologically, but i dont think that makes them not muscle cars

All depends on how muscle car is defined. Perhaps she has an opinion on the subject. Buy her a beer and discuss

I think she needs to relearn what the definition of a muscle car is. I would think that the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro would all fit into that category.

In my experience, Professors are a self righteous and self indulgent sort. Her definition is probably very subjective.

No i don't, Your Professor needs to go back to the 60s

Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles.[1][2] The term generally refers to American 2-door rear wheel drive mid-size cars, and sometimes full-size cars equipped with large, powerful, V8s, and sold at an affordable price for street use and both formal and informal drag racing.[3][4][5][6]

As such, they are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing.

Building on the American phenomenon and developing simultaneously in their own markets, muscle cars also emerged in their own fashions in Australia, South Africa, the UK, and elsewhere.

Definition

According to the June 1967 issue of Road Test magazine, a "muscle car" is "Exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a BIG engine in it. The Muscle Car is Charles Atlas kicking sand in the face of the 98 hp (73 kW) weakling."[7] Author of the book Muscle Cars the quote is drawn from, Peter Henshaw, furthers that the muscle car was designed for straight-line speed, and did not have the "sophisticated chassis", "engineering integrity" or "lithe appearance" of European high-performance cars[7]

However, opinions vary as to whether high-performance full-size cars, compacts, and pony cars qualify as muscle cars.[8]

Tell ya what bro...

Lets put her in my passanger seat and I'll put the hammer down.
This "Professor" is clueless or just behind the curve.

I've had many a professor in my college days, try to push their views on me or tell me what is right or wrong. "It is up to you to decide". But now and then, the professor can learn something too!

Enjoy your night!

In a way yes. TRUE muscle cars were very fast straight line death traps. A few were safer than others. Todays car have the power AND can stop, turn, and if you wreck you'll get hit by about 100 air bags while your car calls an ambulance and fire crew for you. Aside from that I say they are still making them they are just better than ever before.

Mustang Camaro and Challenger are not muscle cars at all. Your prof is correct. They are pony cars biiiiig difference. Not going to get into what a muscle car is but the closest thing to one now would be the Chrysler 300C/SRT8. Last real muscle car was the 94-96 chevy impala ss.

+1. They are not, and were never muscle cars.

You need to go to office hours and have a good long talk about cars. Your time discussing something unrelated to class might be a rapport-building opportunity. This could mean an easy grade and maybe a future reference.

I agree with all of you, and everyone has their own opinion on what a muscle car is and what it is not. To me the big 3 are Muscle Cars, but thats my opinion and I'm not going to shoot anyones opinion down. Just thought I would ask what people thought.
