Death of GM?
I'm sure there's a ton of conversations goin on about this, but do you guys really believe that GM (and Chrysler and Ford) will survive this?
I cannot imagine an America without our auto industry, but it is looking like there will be no more American cars in a few months. Do you believe that the Camaro will ever see dealership showrooms? :flag2: |

I'm sure eventually this thread will be merged with the countless others on this topic, but after everything I've read, watching what seems to be the longest congressional hearings since McCarthy, and hearing arguments from everyone, I say Congress should give them the $25b that is already approved and previously earmarked only for "efficient" technology designs, and the other $7b to come from the $700b bank bailout.
As one of the Senators said, GM (and Ford and Chrysler) are getting far more scrutiny for far less money than the banks got. I agree 100%. Give them the loan. |

Before I answer, let me just say that I feel that (even though this is a forum) this subject has been hit on far too much already with the information we know at the moment, so if you want to know what everyone thinks just read one of the many other posts on this topic. Let's try not to encourage too many negative thoughts.
To answer your question, yes I think GM will make it through, but not without a good deal of restructuring. |

Well I'm not encouraging anything negative. But I'm worried that it's just not gonna happen, the bailout. I don't see them surviving within a year, and this is just my opinion.
I only brought it up here because I don't really know anybody who gives a crap to discuss it. My girlfriend just bought a Scion tonight. You think she'd listen to me? And there's no need to merge or move this thread. If people don't want to respond, so be it. But this is something that is extremely important to me. Considering GM will probably be hit the hardest, I just wanted to see what people readying to purchase the new Camaro (which I'm in love with) think about this. It's not going away any time soon... |

We are all very happy that you share in our Camaro passions, and would be more than happy to discuss any aspect of the car with you. Of course no one can say with certainty that GM or any of the Big 3 will get their requested loans, and so we can only speculate. It just encourages a happier atmosphere when titles of threads are not titled in such ways as this one is (not that it is not relevant, just a little harsh perhaps
). Believe me when I say that everyone on this site is at least somewhat concerned about the future of the Camaro and GM as a whole, and wether it makes economical/financial sense to produce this car and all that, but all we can do as enthusiasts is keep the faith in a posotive manner!

I love GM, as I've stated in the many threads on this topic. We have come to the conclusion that GM, even in bankruptcy, will produce a Camaro. While bankruptcy is not necessarily the end of GM, it will make GM's success very difficult. Hopefully, GM does not go bankrupt because the federal government will see the light of reason and give GM a loan.

I guess reading about this all day, and now watching C-Span, I'm becoming bitter and a lil depressed. All I can see is the worse-case scenario. And the high that I was on a month ago with Barack Obama being elected our next president, I'm feeling the complete negative now.

GM and the others are going to get their money and they are going to make it through. However, you are going to see a massive amount of restructuring for them to stay alive. Expect a lot of consolidation and changes. But also expect that you will see the Camaro on dealer lots in the spring and the Volt shortly there after.

As a GM dealer I think they will make it with the loans. I see a small cash infusion to get them through the next 60 days happening and nothing more from this administration. I think Obama will come through with more funding and a better plan after he assumes office. understand I am a card carrying Republican who is seeing red over this bullshit congress is putting these corporations through. I may have to go over to the dark side if the Republicans kill this thing over some petty ass pork but I am afraid thats excatly whats going to happen. The friggin banks got 700 billion that they are sitting on and buying up other banks with doing NOTHING that they said they would without so much as a raised hand crying for help. Those fat ass politicians all drive BMW"s and Mercedes and dont really give a shit about the big 3. They did of course care about all of there bank investments etc so that bill went right on through. I have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to various Republican candidates and party needs over the years but that shit is over if they **** this up which in my opinion they are already doing.
So in short, a temporay fix will get passed to get GM throug until Obama comes into office and the Dems gain control then an unlikely savior will make this shit right and give a full funding package to the big 3. It is indeed a sad day but maybe good times are just around the corner!

As I have said before in all the forms that have dealt with this topic and I'm sure this is not the last. GM and the American auto industry for that matter must get a loan, make deep cuts(Like they have suggested) and change the common misconception about American Autos. With out this the road to recovery might not happen and the failure of one could doom them all.:flag2::flag2::flag2::flag2::flag2::flag2::fla g2:
