My first mod. ahhh it begins

Ok, so I see everyone on here doing this and doing that to their cars. I've had this beautiful chunk of metal for almost a month now so it's about time I do something to it.

I purchased some cross drilled rotors from BrakePerformance.com. They arrived today and less then 2 hours later completely installed on my ride. I think it looks much better now. Wish I would have taken true before and after pictures but was too thrilled and forgot to take the before pictures.

But here is the after effect:

Not a joke. This site has cost me a few paychecks. I can't complain though, other members have spent five, if not ten times as much on mods as I have. Though I have drawn the line at buying wheels. Can't do that one, because once that starts then you are really starting to spend some cash.

I looked into these, but was dissuaded from getting them cuz the sales guy told me that drilled and slotted rotors cost u surface area, therefore braking power. He was quite convincing, the logic seemed sound,..... Is there any truth in this?

Y'all may be kidding around a little bit, but I've been thinking lately. I think this MAY be a serious issue. We have very beautiful cars, and we're constantly adding mods to make them "ours"-There's not another LS in Atlanta like mine, and it feels SWEET!!! I keep telling myself "aww, it's only a couple hundred bucks I can pay the balance with my income tax returns and bonuses next year...

I've recently spent around $2500 on my Camaro just in mods, all on credit cards and BillMeLater (BE CAREFUL with BillMeLater!! a couple of mouse clicks and you've got your order on the way!) all with high interest rates from 19% to 25%. I'll be paying on these balances for YEARS..

I know better, that I should PAY with cash, like a lot of folks do here, but it's just TOO EASY to point and click and get that rush that your NEW MOD is on the WAY!!!!

I've never taken so much pride and joy in a car, I dearly love working on her, washing and polishing her, babying her, just like y'all..But I'm gonna STOP right now with the mods (unless I win a lottery somewhere).I'm FREEZING the credit cards, and my BuyMeLater account is maxxed out.

Just THINK BEFORE YOU BUY!! Do you HAVE to have it RIGHT NOW??? There are quite a few folks on here that are financially savvy and responsible, but I'm not one of them (unfortunately). I think it's a serious issue that a few folks here on the forums share with me..I plan on just enjoying what I have, and if I EVER get any extra cash, I'll SAVE for those Afterburner headlights I want SO BAD!!!

Sorry for the long rant..Just wish NOW I'd thought my finances through better. I'm able to pay my bills, but only the minimums. At this rate, it'll take me over 20 years to pay off my balances..BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well before I would believe a sales guy, I'd go ask ppl who actually race and see what they say. I know the theory behind slotted and drilled rotors is they help dissipate heat and minimize brake fade. Maybe some brake experts can chime in....

Maybe we should start a MBA (Mod Bugs Anonymous) support system. We can all use some help.

As for the brakes, with everything I've heard, for normal street driving and the occasional racing they will be fine.

Here is a passage from a site:
Stop Tech: "StopTech provides rotors slotted, drilled or plain. For most performance applications slotted is the preferred choice. Slotting helps wipe away debris from between the pad and rotor as well as increasing the "bite" characteristics of the pad. A drilled rotor provides the same type of benefit, but is more susceptible to cracking under severe usage. Many customers prefer the look of a drilled rotor and for street and occasional light duty track use they will work fine. For more severe applications, we recommend slotted rotors." (Note that even though Stop Tech sells both drilled and slotted rotors they do not recommend drilled rotors for severe applications.)

Nice work, I bet you stop a little better now. My first mod will be the Vararam cold air intake. My next mod will be a set of MRT V1. After that I am not sure. I did change my own oil, thats not a mod though. I did use Mobile 1 so that may be a mod. (Laugh). If you do more mods post pictures (worth a 1000 words). Again Great JOB!!!
