What if YOUR ZL1 gets a BLOW OUT?

This is what I am worried about, and why I think anyone with a ZL1 should be concerned. I will be trying to see if a CTS-V has a spare that will fit. If not, I'll just buy a proper aftermarket rim and 285x20 tire. I believe this should remain in this forum location vs TIRES etc. FWIW. ZL1 Owners need specific direction/ideas.

Excellent article cautionary tale on what happened to a CTS-V driver! - WITH PICS!!

you really have two choices on cars without spares if you have a blow out. tow them or call someone to come get you take you to a tire shop.

I have not had this happen yet but depending on where I was I would handle it different. If I was local I would just leave the car and fix the tire. if it was not I would tow the car.

the issue you run into with the larget front brakes on some cars is finding a sapre to clear them. I don't know if that is an issue for the ZL-1 or not.

The really is zero room in the trunk for a full size tire for a spare.

Wheels/Tires that will fit in the spare tire well in the trunk, won't clear the larger brembo brakes.
Wheels/Tires that will clear the larger brembo brakes won't fit in the spare tire well.

Instead they give you a small air pump along with a can of fix-a-flat.

You can use that, use Onstar for service, or call GM on your phone.

Several options are available, plus, how often do people get flat tires these days.

. . . I doubt that my ZL1 will be built in time for GA . . sure had hoped so, but production issues are thwarting his birth . .

Being in the tire business, most flats are either woke up to in the morning or found when walking up to the car. The other thing is most people can't change a tire and call for help. So it leaves a very small percentage that can change the tire and have it happen while driving. Myself, I see this as no big deal and would rather not have the weight or the room taken. It comes with the territory.
