Today, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 officially stepped up the global war for Nürburgring supremacy, as General Motors development engineer Jim Mero drove a stock ZR1 around the Nürburgring in a time of 7:26.4. That's significantly faster than the 7:29 lap set by the Nissan GT-R. We can't wait to see what the rest of the world's supercar competitors are gonna do now to step up their game.

I hope it "does the wall" in the ring! If it's faster GM will just have to develop a higher HP lighter weight Vette!! 2nd place is the first loser.

Yeah, and the Nissan GT-R Spec-V supposedly lapped the Nurburgring in 7:25 (unofficially though, timed by bystanders) so the ZR1 you could say beat both GT-R's! WOOT!

The Corvette ZR1 set the blistering mark earlier this morning, piloted by GM development engineer Jim Mero.

I know there were rumors about the GT-R Spec-V running the ring in 7:25 but I believe that is not an official time. I would not be surprised at all to see the ZR1 break the 7:25 mark as they really start to get that car dialed in. To put those numbers into perspective the fastest time Porsche can manage that I am aware of was a 911 GT2 wearing racing tires at 7:32. The McLaren SLR has run the ring at 7:40. I could be a little off on my times since they are from memory.

I believe the term for that is uberfast...
