Need a little help

Okay so... I have a 1998 Toyota Camry with about 90k miles on it, and here lately it has been acting up a bit. It seems whenever I drive it a little bit and them come to a red light or a chance where I have to come to a complete stop, the rpm meter fluctuates up and down and the car rattles a little bit. It almost feels like the car is going to stall out but its an auto transmission. This only recently started happening, and seems to have a connection somewhat to the AC since its summer and it doesn't do it in the winter. It also seems to happen a bit more when I am on inclines or going over hills. I am no mechanic but I did have a Toyota specialist look at it and he couldn't find anything mechanical wrong the last time it happened a few years ago. Someone mentioned to me it might be the fuel filter which is due to be changed, and I plan on changing the air filter as well, but this has been happening a lot more recently and I just want any suggestions or ideas as to what I can do or what it could be? Thanks in advance. =/

I'm having the same problem with my 95 Chevy Cavalier. Can't even say under what circumstances (hill, a/c etc), it just happens in random occasions usually right after i turn on the engine. I also have some kind of lag afterwards, if I hit the gas nothing really happens until two or three seconds later. really annoying if you wanna get out of the driveway onto a busy street...

Have you ever seafoamed it? I'd try that first. follow the instructions on the can. Put some in a full gas tank, add some to the oil and suck some through the throttle body, or a vacume line.

It may just be dirty. Cheap trouble shooting. Then go for the bigger ticket items.

Do you just buy a can of that at an autozone type of place? And how would you go about sucking it through the throttle body?

If that doesn't work, are there any other cleaning supplies out there that would do the job more effectively?

Yea sounds like dirty/clogged injectors or valves. Make sure to replace the fuel filter if thats possible (dodges are IN the tank and 100k items). obvious stuff like change the oil over to a high mileage synthetic, new plugs, air filter, etc..

You know the normal maintenance stuff.

I'm no expert but I too think it sounds like a fuel supply problem. Dirty/clogged injectors, clogged filter, or failing fuel pump.

Does it improve the symptom you get when you're stopped if you try to rev it up a little bit (left foot on brake, right foot giving it just a little bit of gas)?

I read through your post and I think I found your problem. Please see text in bold above.

Replace this part with a GM part and you'll be all set.

Close but no cigar. Someone posted about having a 95 cavalier with the same problem. Let's cool it on the bashing until you read, mmkay?

My car was doing that a few minutes after I started it... I thought it was a fuel filter/pump, It seemed like it wasn't getting enough fuel but it only happened ramdomly. It turned out to be an oxygen sensor. No problems since it was replaced.

Yes, I got mine at pep boys. They recommend using a vacuum line to suck the seafoam into the intake. Or using their Deep Creep product that you spray right into the throttle body. I have no idea how your Camry is set up. But My guess is you will have to remove the air duct between the air filter and the throttle body. Then just manually open the valve and squirt away, apply the whole can to the entire valve mechanism (inside not outside the throttle body). It's really pretty easy.
