SUV recommendations
So the better-half wants to trade in her little ecobox car on an SUV. These were my recommendations:
-SRT8 Jeep -Range Rover, or even the smaller Evogue -BMW X6M -Yukon Denali, hate the taillights of the new Escalades She's likes the Jeeps but much to my dismay, is looking at the limiteds or overlands since they have pretty much the same features as the SRT, just no 6.4. She also likes the Toyota 4Runners also which I think are cool. Does anyone have any recommendations on SUVs that have been good in the past or that y'all currently have and love/hate? Thanks

Of your list, the only one I'd even consider is the Yukon.
Newer Land Rovers are some of the worst vehicles on the market. Unreliable, hideously expensive to fix, and they depreciate in value like you wouldn't believe. Most of the same applies to the X6. Not terribly reliable and BMW parts will kill your wallet. Not to mention even simple things like replacing a battery require programming and a visit to the dealer. As for the Jeep, I just don't have much faith in Fiat-era Chryslers. Seen too many almost new vehicles have problems. I will say the Overland Grand Cherokees do seem nice, and the adjustable ride height system is cool, but I just see all that as crap that's going to break one day and be $$$$ to fix. But I guess working in auto service makes me a little pessimistic about those sorts of things. The Tahoe/Yukon, 4Runner, Expedition, Explorer are all decent options in the mid to larger SUV range. |

I have a 2012 4Runner purchased a year ago used, absolutely love it and can recommend without hesitation. Not the greatest on gas, but it's built like a tank.

I've had a Durango R/T for 2 months and love it. Dodge did a lot right with it. If you want a mid-sized SUV, the GM options kinda suck unfortunately. Chrysler is now offering a "lifetime" warranty if you're worried about Dodge/Jeep's holding up. No way I'd buy a ranger-rover. BMW is OK, but from what I've seen their quality isn't the greatest either, considering the price-tag. I looked into the 4-Runner...their OK, not all that exciting but do last forever.

I had a lifetime warranty on my 2012 titan but in order for it to be upheld, they said I had to follow the service guide to the T, which included a $400 brake fluid flush at 5,000 miles.
She likes the new explorers too. I forgot about those!

Does she want a true truck-based SUV, or does she just want a bigger car?
SUV-wise, there's a reason GM owns the full size SUV market. If she'll do a CUV, you have a ton more options, from subcompact (Trax/Encore) to compact (Envision) to midsize (Acadia/XT5) to full size (Traverse/Enclave). I'd hold off on the full size CUVs until the 2nd gens roll out next year though. Same with Equinox/Terrain, both are being redesigned.

she looked at the terrains but decided against those. I think shes gravitating more towards the mid size/full size SUVs, nothing too round and "bubbly" and nothing too "boxy". she has a mazda now and thinks that their smaller SUVs look like her car with a lift kit lol.
oh and she also wants something that's "cool" lol

The new Acadia's gotten pretty glowing reviews. SLE/SLT/Denali with two All Terrain models available.

Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep?
If you gave it to me for free, I'd trade it the next day. No thanks. The 4runner is a great truck. It'll outlast any Chrysler pos. Love the Yukon. For a bigger SUV, that's what I'd get. |

As someone who works at BMW - unless you plan to get rid of the X6 before your 4year/50k warranty is up, STAY AWAY. They're maintenance nightmares.
Same with your Jeeps. I'd get the 4runner, or the Yukon.

I personally would pick the Tahoe or Yukon, but I also like the recommendation of the Porsche Macan.
The redesigned Mazda CX-9 seems to be at least worth checking out. It has 3 rows of seats and what appears to be a pretty nice interior. If you go Range Rover, don't bother with anything below the Sport. The Evoque is built on a Ford-based platform with a 2.0T Ford Ecoboost engine. It sounds and rides like a $25k Ford CUV, but you pay $50k for it. |
