Help finding a particular car?

I recently found out an old 1996 Impala SS that I owned has recently been registered in TN (FREE CarFax membership). I would love to buy it back.

How would I find this car? It's been 12 years since I sold it, and I've lost all the records of the sale. I thought I still had them (I have an Impala binder I kept!), but I don't.

Before I dump money into a PAID CarFax account, will that give me the owner's information? I am guessing NOT as there would be security issues with that.

How would you find a specific car if you had to? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I really can't think of a way, unless you have friends at the DMV or Police Department, or some other agency that has access to registration info.

If you know the VIN and have a friend that is a cop have the run the VIN

Depends on the agency...these days Florida audits your VIN/DL checks to make sure you aren't looking up exes or that one guy you hate.

Thanks! I've actually found the Impala Club guy around Lenoir City, TN. I emailed him and he got back to me. Said that they still meet and he'll look around next time they do! It's a baby step, but it's positive direction at least!
