And you will no longer need an Xbox Live Gold Membership to access Netflix and other entertainment apps.

I wonder if that will help their sales. Will the connectless Xbox come with a game like many of the 499 packages still are? If not, the current package is still a better value.
399 xbox + 60 dollar game and you're still looking at almost the same price as the current deals that come with a kinect. Just food for thought.

Also Xbox live gold is effectively PlayStation + now (or real soon). Glad I waited to buy one , I bet by this holiday the Xbox deals are going to be crazy. Now if they make xblg subscription per console and not per user Id, then I'll buy one this Christmas. Sunset Overdrive looks real fun.

And while I see the point you're trying to make about the PS3 price and Blu-Ray, that's also at a time when the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray format war was going on. Blu-Ray movies weren't nearly as common, and were still running 40 bucks a piece. The value of the Blu-Ray was still not attractive. Also, when comparing to the initial price 399 vs 599 (and I think MS calculated this very well), the PS3 came with a lot of capability and accessories that the 360 did not. Among those were the hard drive (360 had a 20G I believe, but required a larger hard drive for many games), wireless network adapter, ability to play DVD's, wireless (and rechargable) controller and a free (although not as good) online gaming experience. Once those items were purchased for the 360, which many people (including myself) did, they brought their price right up to the price of the PS3. Price point matters, but so does long term pricing. Obviously if a person is heart-set on never using a Kinect ever, for any reason, the new price will save them 40 bucks. 40 bucks is 40 bucks. But if they're already including a free game with the 499 package, and the price difference is supposed to reflect the price of the Kinect being gone, I think they would be better off still including a game until sales pick up.
