Cadillac Releases Two Special Edition CTS Paint Options

Cadillac CTS Adds Colorful Limited Edition Models
Matte-finished Silver Frost coupe and performance-inspired Stealth Blue editions debut this year
February 15, 2013
General Motors

DETROIT – A pair of new performance-inspired, limited-edition models featuring custom paint will join the Cadillac CTS Coupe and V-Series product lines this year.

The Silver Frost Edition will be a special run of 100 CTS-V Coupes featuring a special low-gloss matte paint finish.

The Stealth Blue Edition is a vibrant new color in a more traditional metallic finish and will appear on the CTS Coupe and the high-performance CTS-V in Coupe, Sedan and Wagon body styles.

“Some color hues, such as blues, greys and reds easily identify with performance and velocity,” said Michelle Killen, lead creative designer for exterior paints. “Both Stealth Blue and Silver Frost are very expressive but still true to the luxury and exclusivity that a Cadillac represents, which were driving factors in the creation of the color.”

Silver Frost
The Silver Frost matte paint will be on collector-edition vehicles available through select Cadillac dealers across the country beginning in March.

In addition to the 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine delivering 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft of torque, the Silver Frost CTS-V will offer optional features such as:

  • Yellow or red Brembo brake calipers
  • High polished or satin graphite wheels
  • Suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob

The desired finish on the Silver Frost CTS-V coupe was achieved by applying a “30-gloss” clear coat to the paint, as opposed to the “80-gloss” found in standard paint finishes. The paint will still emit a low “sparkle” when certain lights reflect off it, but the finish will be distinctly “matte.”

The paint texture will also be noticeably different to the touch as the finish will be slightly less smooth. This is a desirable trait for fans of matte paint finishes. The paint is engineered to be as durable as normal paint but requires special attention for cleaning. The vehicle should be hand washed only.

“We’ve spent a significant amount of time developing these colors so that owners don’t have to deviate too much from their normal maintenance routines yet still have a distinct and dramatic finish to their performance vehicle,” Killen said.

Stealth Blue
The Stealth Blue will have a limited production run starting in March and will be available on the CTS coupe and all CTS-V models. CTS coupe, V coupe and sedan models will also offer an optional “Twilight Blue” leather interior package to go with the blue-grey exterior paint finish.

Stealth Blue CTS models can also be equipped with multiple performance-inspired details such as:

  • Satin graphite wheels with silver calipers
  • Dark finish grille
  • Recaro performance seats

A full list of options and combinations will be available at Cadillac.com and customers will have the ability to order the Stealth Blue option through dealers.

Hate the Blue, it is much too dull looking as opposed to the M5's Matte Blue, it looks like powder blue. It looks as if their is no sheen and it is a Flat Blue as compared to the M5's Semi-Gloss...

Also I like the Silver but really Silver Frost? They couldn't have thought of anything remotely different, it's clear that its a slight change to BMW's Frozen Gray. They should just call the Matte Colours Stealth <insertcolourhere> </instercolourhere> so Stealth Silver or Blue. Matte Black would have been a much more attractive choice than that blue...

It's a step in the right direction though, for Cadillac to be a true competitor they will have to introduce customization to their cars, the ATS has started with the multiple interior colours, but they need to have a line of custom paints that they charge $5,000+ for.

You will rarely see another M3 like this just driving around because of BMW Individual:

But the big thing is it's a step in the right direction!

from the pictures, I think I like them, but I would definitely have to see them in person.

only thing about a matte finish is that u cant wipe it or else u will ruin it and have shiny spots. That stealth blue looks like Deinem blue on the spark.

How do you mean?

Matte (flat) and Semigloss (which is what most "Matte" paints actually are) are completely different. For example you can wipe the M3's Frozen Black and it won't turn gloss. You can even wax it, though you have to buy special wax. The only problem with matte and semigloss is you can't polish out scratches yourself...

You can't polish out scratches, period. Any aggressive scrubbing also can shine an area. You can polish a shine onto the finishes. You cannot remove it. You need to paint it. I like the look but the real world is not the best place for these type of finishes...

Can't wait until this matte paint fad is done. Driving around in a $60K luxury car with a primered look = dumb.

+1

But to each his own. I certainly wouldn't tell someone they can't spend their money the way they like. It's just not for me though.

Why would someone call someone dumb because they don't like their taste?

I had a 2000 matte grey Ducati ST4s. It was awesome. I'd take every car I ever bought in the future that exact color.

My opinion but pretty sure that opinion doesn't make me dumb.

Until you've seen it in person, it's really not smart to form such a rigid opinion. Paints in pictures can be quite deceiving. Camaro owners should already be well aware of this... IOM anyone?

As for what people like, taste, it is all subjective... to each their own. There are commonalities when it comes to popular vs. unpopular... but little credit should be given to popularity.

I personally, don't mind the matte look, kinda cool. The chromed look though, full chrome, is just too much for me, my opinion. It seemed a great novelty the first time I saw it, but... couldn't it be considered dangerous to other drivers on the road?

Edit: I wanna see the next CTS!
