Barbaro Statue Unveiled Today-Tribute to Barbaro!

Barbaro's "Larger than Life" statue was unveiled today at the entrance to Churchill Downs. Standing at 10.5 feet tall, with all four legs off the ground, recapturing his stride while winning the 2006 Kentucky Derby. I became a huge fan of Barbaro, first while watching him pull away from the rest of the field in the Derby. And then after his injury, pulling for him to survive. While some members have struggled in coming up with a nick-name for their new Camaro, it was an easy choice for me......BARBARO!

....I always thought people that were fans of dead celebrities were nuts....and now here I am...I did these for a Barbaro fan site, among many others....Like people, I like to think animals also go to heaven, and the top one is how I envision Barbaro now....the boat one is just a way of saying "Barbaro can do as he pleases now"...no trainers/jockies pushing him extremely hard. He can just "Be"...

Perhaps one of him riding in a Camaro with his head out of the sunroof would be fitting. If I were him, that's what I would ride in in heaven.

It was really sad to see. How quickly it happened. I was just amazed how Barbaro kept his balance on three legs while trying to slow down from a full gallop. And then his 8 month effort to survive.

Thankfully, he's in a better place now, with a healthy new body.

Or better yet, a T-Top version! Funny, but this reminds me of Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life" when "Death" visits people around dinner table, and they all find out their dead from eating something bad, and the one asks if they can drive to heaven...and then next scene they're all floating through the sky in cars.

Here's a youtube of the 06' Derby, and Barbaro making his characteristic move in the final turn for home.....He was undefeated in all 6 races he entered and finished, winning by an overall average of 6 lengths.
