B Pillar Rust

http://g35driver.com/forums/attachme...0321-00090.jpg

Got something similar to that on my 2000 Mazda Protege, but no as severe, that's just the first picture I found.

Rather than plastdipping as I originally planned, I'm looking to cover it up with gloss black vinyl. What do you guys think? Here are some pictures of what I'm talking about

Make sure you remove the rust before covering it up.

Is it required to sand it down? How would I go about prepping the surface?

It depends how bad it is, but I would get as much rust off as I can with a wire brush or a bit of sand paper, then use naval gel. You are going to want a smooth surface for applying the vinyl, so you may want to use a bit of a bonding or epoxy to fill and smooth the surface if it's a large spot.

Those pillars are removable, go to a junk yard and buy replacements.
