Wow, so much for keeping the price low by splitting R&D with Subaru. 30k for essentially the base model to get one with a/c.

The "Customize Grade" is a cool idea. It's rare to see a car sold today without A/C and factory unpainted bumpers. Some people just want a simple, no BS car.
$38,000 for non-turbo 4 cylinder powered coupe is a bit crazy though....

Good lord. Is that in US dollars? I can think of a LOT of better cars I'd rather buy for $38k.

Um, that is the converted price for the Japanese only model TOYOTA 86, we will be getting a Scionm FT-86 and the Subaru BRZ, i will wait for actual US prices before judging.......... I judge don't understand why people on this site are so quick to want to shoot these cars down.......

No way Toyota decides to go that high in the US Market. I mean, come on, the TT Supra was 42-45 range, and this car isn't close to that kind of a car. (Don't get me wrong, I love this car so far, and my brother is buying one once details are out) |

We should be excited about these little rwd cars...if the market reacts positively...GM will react. We saw two viable concepts as NAIAS, one of which was rwd...that excites me to think that GM would give as a turbo Ecotec and rwd to go head to head against these two cars. Too Cool!

Toyota themselves said the car would "start under $30,000"

Subaru is setting their BRZ much lower. I would really think Toyota must follow suit, and/or hopefully undercut Subaru's price.

Realize we will not get a stripped down version like the Japanese will have. Our will no have AC, body colored bumbers, bluetooth, etc. Last I saw is around 25k for the Scion miodel, (FYI we will NOT be getting a version under the Toyota badge). Considering this a dedicated sportscar platform, made for low center of gravity, balance, even the interior is driver oriented staright down to the pedals, even 28k or so would be a screaming bargain. It isn't about HP or taking a sedan platform and turning into a 2 door coupe, aka Camro, Challenger, and even Mustang ( lincoln LS platform with the IRS replaced with a live axle)). |
