Prior to getting my Camaro, I always had a dream to remove my 5.3 and replace it with a 6.2 in my 2004 Silverado. A 6.2 regular cab truck would be awesome. Now I have the Camaro and it satisfies my performance needs.
BTW, the 5.3 is a workhorse of an engine. The LSX design along with the unique bore/stroke combination makes it a reliable engine. The 5.3 still has a couple more years left in it.

It has a few more years left.
The displacement will live on though.

My problem with both Ford and GM is that they won't let you have the larger V-8 engines in a regular cab truck. I would love to be able to order a 6.0L+ V-8 in a regular cab, 2wd but neither will let you do it. The problem with Ford and GM isn't that the engines don't exist, it is that they won't let you have them outside of limited cirumstances. Want big power and a regular cab, 2wd? You'll have to go to Dodge or Toyota.

6.2
I don't understand why GM doesn't put the Duramax diesel in the suburban/tahoe line of vehicles. It's already prepared to pass all the EPA and safety tests. It seems to me a lot of people would love that combination in a little more plush vehicle and not a truck. Take a look at the luxury cars in Europe and you'll see that more than 50% of all cars in Europe are diesels. I don't think there's a technological differeence in the 6.2 compared to the 5.3.

If you remember the first production diesels in Oldsmobiles, Cadilacs and Chevettes.....it's no wonder. The Duramax is state of the art and a great engine!!

the first diesels in the oldsmobiles were gutless as hell but phenomenal on fuel.

They would have to redesign the chassis in the suburban to accomodate the duramax. You can't put a motor with that much power into a vehicle that can't exploit it's capabilities, meaning the motor can tow 25k pounds or so which we already knew, but the suv's are not rated for that. So they would have to strengthen them.

Oldsmobile V8's in general got better mileage than other manufactures with similar displacement. Mainly because of the great bottom end torque. My mid eighties Delta's I had got 22 to 25MPG highway depending on if they had the overdrive tranny or not. Pretty decent for a incredibly underpowered 4200 pound car with the aerodynamic properties of a brick. My 67 and 69 Cutlass's would get almost the same when they were stock. Those Olds diesel blocks are worth their weight in gold to people who build Olds motors. They are incredibly strong blocks.

If for some reason I couldn't get a CAMARO, I'd definetely be looking at a 6.2 Silverado or Sierra. Congrats' on the new ride
Throw a Maggy/KB/Whipple on it
