Beater car poll

Since I'm not going to be driving the Camaro around for the winter time, I was doing some searching for a winter vehicle that has either 4X4 or AWD, and under $4000 (my budget). Now keep in mind, I'm looking for something that can also move my DJ equipment around, since my system doesn't fit in the Camaro. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices:

1999 GMC Jimmy for $2500
1994 Chevy Astro for $2000

Which would you choose, AND why?

The Jimmy, it's not even a question. Do you really want to drive around in the Astro for 4 months out of the year?

Between those two choices and prices i think i would get the the jimmy...i would bet it gets better gas mileage since you can go 2wd...also, it looks like it is fully optioned as well

Definitely Jimmy, I'd only drive an astro van as punishment.

Jimmy for sure, especially considering THAT Astro van. I'm not a fan at all of the Astro's paint, body kit, aftermarket wheels.

If it was me, I'd go with the Jimmy. It looks like it's in good shape-- though make sure you go over it or have a mechanic go over it to be sure. The heated mirrors, seats, etc will be nice for winter and you still get the space to haul, etc.

Plus, that van is not only hideous, but huge! I can't imagine driving that thing. I drive a beater Jeep Grand Cherokee in the winter and that thing seems huge to me.

Well they both share the same engine but I suppose I'm more partial to the Jimmy because I've had my Sonoma for so long and it's been such a great vehicle. Plus the 4x4 will do better in the bad snow than the AWD and like said you can shut it off.

I have a '96 olds ciera station wagon in beige. It's ugly as $hit but paid for and cheap to run and I don't care if I hit curbs, get door dings, or salt. IMO bank your $ instead of wasting on an expensive winter beater. Most winter beaters usually cost under $1000, not 4k.

You couldn't pay me enough to drive an Astro...horrible!

Jimmy.

M-vans are indestructible but that thing looks atrocious.
