"This item no longer active" messages

I like to use the search button to research products and experiences. A lot of times when I click on a topic, I get this message:

vBulletin Message This item no longer active

Why are these threads being deleted? It would be better to lock the threads instead of removing the complete discussion.

I believe what you are seeing are threads that are being removed as they were only limited time specials/group buys/etc...

I've seen it happen on a few threads myself and in each case, it was generally items with an expiration date on the purchase...

A lot of them are threads posted by former site sponsors who are no longer sponsors. Once you leave your threads get shut off.

That's ashame since I'm sure there is useful information about the products.

But then you'll always have the people that will harass the sponsors about the product that is already sold.

Also, the good vendors will post product info in the technical section and leave the dealing and selling in the vendor section. Threads in the technical section don't get deleted, unless rules are broken.
