Unhappy Tragic ending to life of a fellow Camaro owner

Yesterday, Diane Dye was shot and killed by her husband from whom she had filed divorce and protective order. He then shot and killed himself. I have worked with Raymond for many years at the City of Lawton, and knew his wife. She knew that I had a Camaro, and had to come by to show me her new car. Diane owned a beautiful rally yellow Camaro, and she was so proud of it. They have 2 children. Please pray for the children, the family, and the community of Elgin. We (all of the employees of the City of Lawton) are also deeply affected by the loss of any of our own.

********

ELGIN, Okla. - A man gunned down his wife, then turned the gun on himself in the parking lot of the Bank of the Wichitas in Elgin, Monday morning.

It happened just before 10:00 a.m. Both are dead. Police say Raymond Dye shot and killed his estranged wife Diane, then shot himself. They say the couple had been going through a rough divorce.

Comanche County Sheriff Kenny Stradley says Diane Dye had just reported on July 7 that her husband had threatened her and the Oklahoma Supreme Court network's website shows she filed a protective order against her husband on the 8, the same day she filed for divorce. Sadly, Raymond Dye was able to follow through on his threats.

"I didn't think much about it, it's just normal, it sounded like a firework to me," said Elgin Fire Chief Mike Baker.

Baker was at the fire station, just a few blocks away from the bank. Elgin Police Chief Carl Bremenkamp was also nearby.

"I looked over there and see Ray's truck and I thought, ‘oh my god'," said Bremenkamp.

Baker is a volunteer firefighter and he immediately radioed for help. First responders were there in about a minute, but it was too late.

"Upon their arrival, they found two deceased individuals in they parking lot here," said OSBI Agent Richard Goss.

The victim, 40-year old Diane Dye, a 7th grade teacher in Elgin. The shooter was her estranged husband, a Lawton firefighter.

"[She] was in the process of a divorce with her husband 42-year-old Raymond Dye. She came to the bank this morning to open up a checking account," said Goss.

When she came out of the bank, her estranged husband had blocked her car in.

"[He] jumped out of the pickup, grabbed hold of her, kind of like in a head lock, and he tried to pull her into his vehicle, and she fought back," said Bremenkamp.

Elgin Police say that is when he pulled out a gun.

"[He] shot her, she fell down and he shot her three more times," said Bremenkamp.

He then turned the gun on himself. The parking lot was filled with bank employees, friends, and loved ones distraught and shocked.

"I knew them and everyone in the community knew them, they own a gym here and one of them's a coach, small community we're going to feel the effects for awhile," said Baker.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has also been called in to help. A spokesman says they have not confirmed the actual number of gunshots, but confirm it was a murder-suicide.

The OSBI and Elgin Police are checking out the bank surveillance video. Police say a technician will be there Tuesday to retrieve it. They should be able to see exactly what happened because the camera was placed right by the parking lot.

This happened to a dear friend of mine many years ago. The husband murdered her and their three children, just so they wouldn't be embarrassed by his impending bankruptcy! I was messed up for awhile over that, I pray the rest of the family can find some peace.

What a tragedy. I can't understand why he had to take the wife out, too. Just take yourself out if you feel that's the only way. How do you leave your kids with no parents? My prayers for the kids......
