Mini vs Porsche (and Hyundai?) "Rumble on the Racetrack"

Mini wants to race the Carrera S with the substantially less expensive Cooper S. Porsche wants to avoid it. Mini, therefore, has decided to taunt Porsche by flying a banner over Porsche headquarters. Rivalries are great. Jalopnik reported.

Even losing is a PR win for Mini. Think about it. Everyone expects Porsche to win. If Mini loses, it got people thinking about Mini on Porsche's level. If Mini wins, Porsche is suddenly vastly overpriced and inferior. If Mini is close, then Porsche is still overpriced and Mini is a better deal.

Only way I see this as a win for Mini is if its a close loss or win. Otherwise its just another stunt, that drew a quick chuckle.

The video of the "lapping session" at Brainerd begs more questions than it answers...

1) The "whistle" you hear before most shifts doesn't sound like the Minis I've driven...

2) Tires?

3) Driver?

4) Out for a jaunt with a "Novice" group?

Simple. If it's the tightest road course you have ever seen in your life, with absolutely no straights, then the Mini has a shot. Those things are like go karts

What he said.......Road Atlanta isn't any other track, its a very challenging track where you need handling and POWER........Porsche has it and the Mini is slacking big time on that.

Mini seems to still be struggling to talk Porsche into participating in a throw down at Road Atlanta. After a couple of clever videos and hiring a plane to buzz the Porsche North America headquarters, the pint-size brand just can't seem to talk its German Goliath into stepping into the ring. Maybe that's because Porsche thinks Mini hasn't put in the hours – the dedication it needs to be a serious contender. What Mini really needs is a solid training montage, complete with bad '80s music, sparkle filters and surly trainer.

Well, look no further. A fresh-from-the-oven video has cropped up over on Funny or Die featuring the Cooper S as it punishes itself in the pursuit of all-out motorsports glory. Don't worry, Mini head honcho Jim McDowell doesn't spend any time on screen this time.

For me, a matchup wouldn't really prove anything. I know both Porsches and Minis are some of the best handling cars out there, and they each have their own attractive qualities. I guess Mini just wants to show the average consumer that a Mini is not just an ecocar
