Mike Conway crash-good video
If you haven't seen it yet. The view at 1:08 is fairly mindblowing- and he survives.

Even the still shot is terrifying.
That was one of the scariest, nearly as bad as Alex Zanardi's crash. He's lucky to even be alive.

God, that's the luckiest wreck I've ever seen. He was 30-40 degrees away from going into the catch fence head-first, and then he was no more then a few inches away from rhr's intake catching him in the face as he flew over him upside down. Wow. The incar from rhr is breathtaking.

We sit in turn four and had a pretty horrific view of that. What really got us was the fact that they never said a single thing about his condition, either on the PA or on the scanner. We were waiting to hear if he was OK and heard nothing, so we were thinking the worst. Finally heard on the car radio on the way home he was relatively OK. In Indy the race is blacked-out and they show it later that evening. The TV coverage covered his condition pretty quickly, but they sure left us fans at the track in suspense. Amazing how much safer the cars and drivers tub/compartment is now compared to 15 year ago in the Stan Fox crash in '95 which left him mostly hanging out and exposed. And yes it was also lucky Conway didn't go into the catch-fence cockpit first, AND that the pole that split the car hit the engine area and not the cockpit.

It is amazing how much safer they are. If he was seriously injured, I wouldn't have posted it- but I guess he's relatively ok except for a hurt leg. Just incredible.
