*Who's an EBAY guru that can help?*

Alright, I'm selling a car on EBAY and I'm just wondering about all of the emails I've got today (the first day of it's listing). I've got about 6 so far, and I'm just kinda unsure of their validity. I've got no bids as of now, but most of these people have agreed upon my reserve price and are wanting my Paypal address, phone number, and home address.

A couple of them are saying they'll Paypal me the extra money that will cover the shipping and I pay (Western Union) the shipping company.

So basically let me know what you think of this situation, how you've done business with a big sale, and what you think I should do.

Thanks guys.

I have my own Ebay side business too, DO NOT give them any info, contact ebay and report each user for violating the rules. If someone wants to buy it they will. My user id is I_Sell_Stuff_4_You

Please don't give them any information.

I almost fell for a scam and they told me they wanted me to send them half the money and the rest once they send me the car and they will also pay for shipping and they also said they were gonna use a escrow or something to make sure the transaction is safe for the both of us...well i googled it and guess what that was one of the most popular scams used on ebaymotors...dont give them any of your info...be very careful!!!! good luck with the sale...

Steer clear definately a scam! If wiring money is involved somehow it's never good!!

My wife was sent a counterfeit cashiers check once for collectables she had listed on ebay that the person had requested to buy outside of the eBay sale since she was from Nigeria and had plenty of money but needed a friend to help her ship the goods back to her and just wanted to send us a "proper" cashiers check so we would not worry about it being legitimate. She had emailed my wife quite a few times so we went along to see what would happen but we never gave more than an email address.

Extra money was given to cover shipping $1000 and she wanted to have my wife deposit the check ($4800) and then wire the extra money to a friend of hers that was going to set up shipping the goods back to the buyer.

We went to the bank with the check to see what they said and found out the check was a very good counterfeit, one of the best they had ever seen. What they said would happen was if we deposited the check in our account and then wired the extra funds, we would lose that extra money. The scammer would hope no one would catch the counterfeit check at the time of deposit, and then when we wired the extra money we would be liable for that amount we sent back ($1000) because the initial cashiers check was bad, once it was discovered the check was fake we would have no recourse because the money would have been wired out of the country and the bank would ultimately come after us to protect their assets.

The bank took the check to give to the authorities and we also turned over the email address of the scammer too. Never heard anything.

I told my wife from the very beginning the whole deal smelled like a big turd so we played along to see what would happen and were careful to never give any other info besides a basic email to them.

Be careful, there are many crazy people out there that think of all kinds of ways to try to steal money from innocent people!

careful

when responding check hide my email this will stop them from contacting you and acting like its all good. If they want it they can bid or bring cash to the site. Never every take a check or money orders (fake money orders are now in circulation). Cash or paypal, they can always meet you at a bank for a direct money transfer.

You're getting good advice here. If the want to buy your car let them bid on it. Both Ebay and paypal offer buyer/seller protection.

BTW what kind of car are you selling?

I'm selling a 1970 Chevelle.

I really appreciate your help here, but here's my new issue.
A "buyer" has already paypal'd me the ammount of purchase + shipping expense ammount.
Can I just cancel or send back?

I would call PayPal and Verify that it is legit cause they can be using someone else PayPal account and yes you can refund and cancel the transaction

You can request Paypal put the money in your bank account or send you a check. Once the money is in your account then it is yours.

I always recommend the following when buying / selling on the net.
1. Get buyers name, address and phone. Then do a quick yellow pages search in it.
2. find the buyer / seller home town police department. Good number to have in case some thing goes wrong.
3. Call and talk to the person, don't just email and think it is good.

good luck
