Do I really HAVE to go to my appointment??
Hope not...
Background. Last year, as I was fighting off pneumonia, my doctor notice me rubbing my hands. Soon, she had the truth out of me. My hands always hurt, sometimes so bad that I can't do ANYTHING! The pain is unpredictable and can get worse at any time, for no reason at all (ask IrocZLover about it).Its sometimes shoots up or down my arms like an electrical shock. Needless to say I am now on medication for it and have had tests done, and noone knows for sure why this is happening. One theory was that the 2 bulging discs in my neck were pinching the nerve bundles and causing pain that way. Well I had another Drs appointment yesterday, this time with a Neurologist. He checked my medical history out, looked at my last MRI, gave me a checkup and told me he didn't know for sure what was up. He did state that the bulging discs could be part of the problem but not all of it. They aren't bulging THAT much. He did state that my cervical spine (neck) is completely straight (it should look like a 'C')-hmmm, that might help explain the migraines. Now, he is sending me to a clinic to have what is called a 'nerve conduction study' done. I had one back in 2001 and am not looking forward to another one. The hook you up to a computer and send electrical shocks down you arm to measure the strength and speed of you nerve impulses. Then they stick probes in your arms and neck to measure other impulses. Not fun and it hurts. Last time they wound up overloading my nervous system so that I couldn't feel pain for nearly a half hour. When everything kicked back in I was extremely glad I had a prescirption for Vicadin. OK, I know I need this and Tammy and our kids are way too important to me to ignore my health. I can't afford to have this continue too much longer or get worse so that I can't do my job any more. I just wish we knew what the problem was and really wish I didn't have to go through this test again. Put me back in the MRI machine, kick me in the shin, whatever. Thanks for letting me vent. |

Karma for messing with Fbodfather!!!
on a serious note, sounds pretty horrible. I wouldn't want to go through it twice either. Good luck and I hope it all turns out well. |

I've only had a couple of extreme migraines. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I hope you get a quick and easy solution.
My mom has Lupus, along with a variety of other autoimmune conditions. If you've ever seen House, a lot of the conditions on the show can develop from autoimmune disorders. They never go away, instead going into temporary remissions. Hopefully, whatever is affecting you can be solved permanently.

I feel for ya dude, I've had the conductivity test done for carpal tunnel severity, I'd cringe to have to have it done again. I hope they discover whats up and fix it, good luck man.

The last test they didn't find anything but who knows how good the people reviewing everything were. This time the doc is sending me to what he refers to as 'the best.' Hopefully, they figure it out. I would love to know what this is. At least then we can make some progress.
I had a migraine sneak up on me at work Sunday night. Started about 2AM. Well, I get paid extra for my work shift that start on Sunday, as long as I am at work and not on sick leave or vacation. So, I figured I would stick it out. Of course, it got worse. Around 6AM I was thinking, come on, only 3 hours to go. Got off at 9 and drove home, Lord the sun was bright, and anyone who knows what a migraine is like can tell you how much light and sound can hurt. Got home, took my migraine meds (Maxalt is good stuff) but it was too late for an easy fix. Ice packs, more Maxalt, dark room, ear plugs, repeat. Finally, I felt it let go at about 4PM. Had just enough time to get some sleep to go to work. The only good thing about the migraines is if they are bad, I can't feel my hands hurt. lol |
