Intro

Hi,

I bought a brand new 2018 A10 convertible last May. This is a week-end car. My daily driver is a 2017 Nissan Titan SV. The ZL1 shares the garage with several motorcycles so it is is not the fastest machine I own as far as acceleration and by a margin, but it is the most powerful car I've ever owned.

Why the ZL1? It took me 8 months to jump. I considered a regular Vette new with a 2LT package, factory certified Carrera (RWD only not the 4S), factory certified Z06, and of course the Hellcat new which I test drove 5 months prior to buying the ZL1.

At the end the ZL1 carried the most "pros". The sports car aspect of it, the supercharger were deal breakers. The Hellcat is powerful and comfortable as we all know but it is big. I could not test how it handled during the drive for obvious reasons. Along the way, the idea of buying a convertible grew on me. There was one locally. I decided to test drive it instead of the ZL1 coupe. I also wanted an A10 anyway, so no LE for me. I drove manual gear boxes until 2004, but I am 53 and I am done with manual gear boxes.

I had never owned a vert. The test drive made me a convert, no pun! In fact I have 800 miles so far, and less than 10 miles were with the top up. I am in Florida. It is a bit hot I admit right now. My wife does enjoy the car as well. it is almost like a bike, but with additional safety and comfort. Top down way into the 3 digits speed, no problem - truly amazing machine.

When I test drove it, I had two peeves: viz with the top up (a non-issue because I do not drive with the top up), and the relative narrowness of the seat. I am 6'2 and 230, kinda athletic, but the seat was bothersome on the thighs. Well the feel is gone. I guess the seat is broken in. I forgot: the Onstar is creepy. I did not activate it. I know that I should yank the module out.

Engine wise: the oil level has not budged. I am careful with the break-in process without babying the car. I have not driven in town, so idle is kept at the min. I pushed to 4000 rpm before 500 miles for a few brief moments, and to 5000 very briefly at 700 miles. I use the engine breaking effect a lot, followed by sharp bouts of acceleration to about 3000 rpm, every ten miles or so. My first oil change will be at 1500 miles. We have the facilities to do most of the work at home, so no dealer visit for me.

Handling is fabulous and the A10 is eons better than the 7 speed of the Nissan as far as shifting logic. Braking looks promising but I have not stomped on the brakes yet. My average gas mileage is 19 miles (again no city or in the traffic driving)

The car is charcoal in color. I guess they have another name for it. I would have preferred blue, but it is what it is.

As far as mods: so far I added the lift points and keyed lug nuts. The catch can does make sense but I am worried about the warranty. I do not plan on doing anything else in the near future. The car has plenty of oomph for what I do with it.

There is plenty of great information on this board. I check it every day.

That's it.

CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!
