Okay What Was The Buick Brand Thinking

In the 90's and early 00's. I see those cars on the road and it seemed like the engineers made the cars specifically for older people. Even some of the stock colors of the cars looked like paint on retirement home walls. I mean were they so content on selling those cars to older people they just gave up on inspiring to design better cars are what?

As a kid I called them Cadillacs for poor old people. Wrong, I know, but still.

They were designed for old people.

This was my thinking as a kid
Chevrolet = Normal people car
Oldsmobile = slightly richer normal people car
Buick = poor old people car
Cadillac = rich old people car

They were designed for older people, but along were kinda of sleepers because nearly all of their cars had the optional SCed 3800 V6. Do a supercharger pulley and some bsic performance upgrades and you could have a Buick running 13s and surprice most mainstream performance cars of the time. I used to have that fun with my 96 Roadmaster with the LT1, fun picking on stock 94-98 Mustang GTs

I had two supercharged Regal GSs and guess what, they were among the fastest family cars of the days. I looked at every GM car that got reasonable gas mileage (30 if you were careful), performance and that would carry long legged teenagers on long trips and the Buicks had a lock on that market. Sometimes when you have kids you have to compromise a little.

Possibly the biggest accomplishment of all the GM branches

Unfortunately the all white w/ blue int. GS I purchaced off my Dad was the year right before they supercharged it. It was a great car with good power that got great MPG even with the 3800. I really miss it and it would still be my DD if it didn't get totaled by a Suburban rear-ending it in traffic on the highway.

The Grand National was bad ass but not really relevant to this thread since the OP was only talking about 90's-00's. Heck the GSX 455 Stage I was the king of 70's full size muscle but not relevant to this thread about late model Buicks.

... but seriously, Pontiac had some real winners over the years, too bad they flew south and never came back.

i have often wondered why buick doesn't come out with a decent performance car.like you say they make a lot of what i call family cars.seems like every 30 or 40 years they will come out with a really kick ass car and then stop.they have made some great engines thru the years.
