Saved a deer tonight

Actually, it was the Linghocken Fire Co.!

My sister came to the house tonight and says, "Theres a small deer stuck in a wrought iron fence up the road." So, a call to the Police Dept., and 2 hrs. later, a young deer is given a second chance.

There were two Officers, the Sergeant, and a HUGE fire truck on the scene. The first Officer to arrive and I tried unsuccessfully to get her free. Talk about strength...damn deer are STRONG! It took the "jaws of life" to pry the bars apart. Once free, the poor thing just sat there...I think she was in shock. But then she got up and took off into the woods.

I felt funny having 3 cops and a fire dept. involved, but none of them wanted to see the deer suffer or be put down.

I'll be writing a few letters tomorrow...they deserve to be recognized for being such cool folks.

We had one like that last year but was a Mamma deer and the cops had to cut the baby out with a pocket knife.

So great joy and sadness.

I don't kow about your area, but if the %$#@'s around here would attempt to do the speed limit, there'd be ALOT less accidents involving deer.

Last night there are 3 cop cars, and a huge firetruck, parked as we all try to save this deer, and just about every car passing by had to be doing around 55 in a 40. Even the cops commented on what $%#@'s are on the roads anymore.

I hope you have a very successful business, but if people would try and drive closer to the speedlimits, they wouldnt have to spend so much time at board of supervisor meetings complaining about deer. And they wouldnt be visitng bodyshops.

I agree with you on this point only partially... for instance: My wife driving home in the evening she comes across deer along side the road she slows down well below the speed limit to around 20mph thinking they may cross so the deer become nervous due to the change in speed they are used to seeing other vehicles do along this stretch of road one bolts right into the side of the car instead of hitting the deer head-on the deer T bones the car falls down gets up and runs away... still cost us a trip to the body shop and didn't even get any Venison out of the deal

Moral of the story.... maintain speed the deer are use to that... they know
