After 4-5 years on the job, our BS sniffer/meter is quite well honed. Maybe the fact you are 17 and the officer was once 17 and a cop let him slide.

There are compassionate police out there who are not hypocritical. What gets people in trouble is too much BS.

Trust me on this.

Talking

heh, i have one of my own:

about 10 years ago i was living in Daytona Beach, and was visiting my hometown for the summer and to use my dad's connections to get me a newer car. I was driving my 86 SR5 4x4 (the Marty McFly truck). now where live the average speed limit on the main road (international speedway blvd, that runs right past the famous Daytona Speedway and the malls and a airport etc) is 45 and it is 55 mph on back roads. well i was coming back to my cousin's apt where i was staying for a few weeks after leaving a Denny's. I was still a few miles away when i got Jamestown's finest behind me with the strobes and a brief 'whoop' from his siren. he asks for my DL, insurance card, etc, which are all from Florida. he said he pulled me over for doing 45 in a 35. I told him where i live it is 45 on the main road, and normally i do 35 in town, but i forgot that one time. he goes back to his car, and i know i am boned and will have to stay longer in town to go to the court date. he comes back and hands me my paperwork, and told me to be careful next time, and that he recognizes my truck and said if he ever caught me speeding again he would give me a ticket. i thanked him and went home, a few days later i got my car, the 88 Camaro IROC clone and flew OUT of Jamestown going towards the freeway that goes south down to Florida doing 45 .

I out ran a cop once and he still let me go.

As I had no idea he was behind me. Once I let off and slowed, he was about a block n half behind me. by time I seen any light I was already around a corner and had slowed down to traffic speed for a good block.

Told him I was just blowing it out. [ it did have plug problems, till I made my own dual coil wire n ran dual coils, through a single set of points, no more premature plug faliure.]

When in reality I went after an old charger for a race.

Just told me to slow this big green thing down. Though did kinda freak when I lifed my jacket to prove I had a seatbelt on. 68, no shoulder belt.

I was in my old 68 Ford Galaxy, just a 302 2bb [70,000 original miles, no mods] but ate 80s 5.0 stick for candy. Yea they got me off the line but by time they hit the top of 2nd n Id just walk away in a car 3 times their weight.

only ford id own, pre 70s.

Ha, Sat night after going out to eat with my mom, wife, and 2 y/o son, we stopped by Walmart. Leaving, a cop got behind me and followed me into my neighborhood. He ran my plates and pulled me over. Sh*t, "Do you have a warrant sir" he asked. I thought "no" but wasn't sure. Turns out I do when you run my license plates, but they spelled my name wrong so it's on wrong file. N-E-ways, he checked my d.l.-expired (birthday was Monday), checks my insp. - expired, checks my reg - expired, checks my ins. - expired. So now I'm thinking I'm f'd. He heads back to his cruiser for 10 min. The whole time my f'ing wife won't stop letting my know how much trouble I'm in. He comes back and says he'll let me off with a warning as long as I get everything taken care off within 30 days, then all I'll have to pay is $10. Couldn't believe it!! Should of gotten lottery ticket that night.

Man, how can you let your license, inspection sticker, registration, and insurance all lapse??? I's hard to believe the LEO let you off, he shoulda thrown the book at you for the mere iresponsibility aspect. I would think there would be a big liability on the LEO if he let you off for all that and then you caused a serious accident.

My buddy and I had just finished working on his 84 Cutlass and he was wanting to take her out for a spin. So we were cruising the back roads (Upstate NY, lots of farm roads) when he decides to punch it. All we can say for sure is that the needle was buried at 120 when the blue lights came on. My buddy, figuring that we had a huuuge head start on the cop (who had been going the opposite direction and had to turn around to make chase), decided that we might be able to get out of this one. He makes a left onto another road and immediately turns right into a long uphill driveway and parks it. Now it's 2 in the morning and we are in somebody's driveway with our heads down and the car off just waiting. Sure as hell, a couple seconds later we see the police lights go by and we breathe a sigh of relief. We figure we should wait another minute to be safe, and suddenly there's a tap, tap, tap on the window. We look up and there's the cop. He tells us that we had been doing 130 according to his radar, and asked to see under the hood. He makes some small talk about the car and then says he would let us go, but we had to drive straight home and keep the car off the road for a few days. We were shocked. My buddy finally asked him why he let us go, to which he responded, "I would have never found you if you had taken your foot off the brake pedal..."

If it was the state trooper in the truck I've been pulled over by him three times and he's let me go all three. Cool Guy. Twice heading up to Tampa on 41 and once heading to Bradenton. Might've helped that I was in a different car each time though.

When I was younger (16-23) I got off with warnings 6 times (4 State Troopers, 2 locals) just based on my last name. It is a very rare name and my father is a retired State Trooper. Most of the Troopers of a certain age knew my dad and remembered him fondly. As did most of the local yocals in his Troop vicinity. Then one day at age 25, I get pulled over by a Trooper closer to my age. Asked if he knew my dad...nope, never heard of him, here's your ticket (70 in a 55), have a nice day!

I started driving more responsibly once my dad's friends started retiring too!
