Rental car suggestions

We (2 adults 2 teens) are headed out in the not so distant future to Orlando, flying in to SFB. Rental companies drive me nuts. So I have a bad back and I'm torn between a vert and a luxury car. My wife will probably do most of the driving though I will fight her on it...

We don't need a ton of space, 2 bags and carry on items, a laptop. I just wish I knew if it were a Caddy with an 8 or a 6, or a Lincoln.

I don't consider a Maxima a "Premium" car. so I want something better. I hate they show you a Benz as well when it will never be!

Any suggestions from the crowd, discounts ect from those who do this often? Roughly 8 days.

Thanks!

We recently rented a Nissan Altima and drove it from OKC to NYC and back again. It was about as comfortable of a ride as I've ever been in and it got nearly 40MPG to boot. For a bad back, I'd recommend a cross over like a Tucson.

How would you like the equivalent of a free upgrade? If you were going to take the rental car insurance AND are a Costco member, check into your new credit card. That CITI card offers you free PRIMARY rental car insurance up to $50,000 just by using the card for the rental.. The key is "primary" insurance.
Amex cards usually offer the same thing but for an extra charge.

always rent an econ car and upgrade when you get there. They'll give you a discount on whatever cool cars they have.

I am very familiar with MCO airport. Hertz is awesome there. Rent a an economy car walk past what you want to actually drive and say I wish I would have rented that car. They will ask how much you would pay extra for that car.

I rented a low end car to get from Orlando to my office in Saint Augustine fl. Right before I bought my SS and mentioned I was going to test drive the challenger to compare to my SS. The lady there settled on $10 a day more to drive the Challenger. I ended up keeping it for a month because I was renting it for like 26 and then with tax $30 a day. Yes if you do the math on a month rental it was expensive. Almost $900. But I had trips all over the state this month and got to drive the piss out of this car. Obviously a company expense as well.

This is better than I am about to rent a vehicle in Colorado. I wanted a 4x4 Jeep wrangler 4 door ruibcon for $200 a day. The guy is not going to be able to rent it for 6 days because he leaves for vacation in texas. Currently working out a deal with a rental company to rent a 2015 Dodge 2500 4 door diesel 4x4 for 6 days at $100 a day.

Maxima is a nice car. 300hp v6 weighs about the same as a ss camaro 4 doors. Heated and cooled leather etc. I would take a Maxima over any rental car mercedes.

I ended up reserving a Mustang vert or "similar " with Hertz. We get there and the guy tell me they have a VW Beetle convertible, I turned and told my wife, she just laughed. Luggage won't fit. He then told me he had a Chrysler 200 convertible, uh no I said. That's not equivalent. He caved and said he had a Premium Mustang convertible, grabbed the keys and said it was another 380$ for the premium. I just stared at him. I told him I wasn't paying more and it was Hertz problem if they didn't have what I reserved. Then he wanted to charge me for my wife as a driver and extra for insurance but I declined both. My Mastercard covers my rental car.

40 minuts later we left in a white mustang convertible and no extra charges.

It's a nice ride and we have 2 days left of top down driving when it's near 100 degrees.
