The Sunshine Kids Texas Hill Country Adventure - Cruise to the Capitol 06-11-08

This morning was absolutely AWESOME. To see all those kids get off the bus and pick out what car they wanted to ride in.....oh, man...how cool.

I thought this was going to be just a regular old cruise up around some twisties throught the hill country. Not only that, but I thought it was going to be fbodies ONLY. Well...a few days before, I get an email that it's for kids w/ cancer. I just can't begin to tell ya'll ...

We started in San Marcos and got a full police escort straight up to the capitol. Yes...that means that we had about 20 bike officers, 10 PD cars, trucks, SUV's, etc all block off intersections, on ramps, THE ENTIRE HIGHWAY, etc so we could make our way up there. It was sooooo cool. This will be my first of MANY years to come.

The coolest parts of this deal?

1. The kids. The looks on their faces. The smiles. Oh man...priceless...
2. The cars. Not just fbodies. We had a Lambo Gallardo, a couple Ferrari's, at least 7 Vipers, a Ford GT, Bentley, bunches of Z06's, Fbodies, Stangs, Porches, Jags, etc, etc....Just look at the pix!!!!!
3. At the very end...at the capitol building...I was in my SS behind this blue Viper.....Dad is standing there with mom, their two boys (about 5 and 7) and a younger daughter. Dad asks, "Do you like that Viper, Tom?"

Tom, the 5 year old, points to my car and says, "I like the SS, daddy."

Just tugged at my heart strings...the entire morning! GOD, how I loved it!!!

Enjoy the pix, ya'll!

Very Very Cool Tag, I'm jealous!

The Camaro (yours) looks great ! The other cars look good too.

My wife and I work with a group that takes blind children fishing, there is definately nothing like it. We make it a priority because for some of these kids it's what they look forward to all year.

GOOD JOB!!!

Wow! What an awesome event

Cool pics, too

I wish I could have been out there for this event - it looks like I'm heading out there too late and missing out on good cruises

Awesome for you too! I had given it some thought a while back...what I wanted to do when I retired and all. I mean, I'm talking 26 years away, right? But, I thought about it and realized, I want to do stuff for kids. I was never too fond of the idea of all that stuff until I had two of my own. Precious...just...:( , you know? I'm still in that boat and want to try to do more along the way. I only wished money came to us a little easier so we could do more.

But, I think that's great that you help out the kids like that.

I got choked up immediately following finding out that it was for the kids. Then, when they came out and ran to the cars....again...then, when seeing the joy. I mean, these kids are going through things we would NEVER wish upon anyone...let alone a child. How ......uh...sad. But, making them happy through their tough times is something EVERYONE can try to do.

You bet it was! From, what....10:30 to a little passed midnight? Something like that. Hey, it was cool out...82, but still....the water didn't evaporate on contact on the black paint leaving all the particles stuck to the paint. Yep...it was worth it. I just might wash it more often like that!
And thanks...on both accounts.

Finally...

A HUGE THANK YOU!!! to Turtle and Naomi for inviting me and keeping me involved w/ some of the cool Austin Fbody stuff. I might not be able to make it all the time, but I try!!! And those times I do get to go, you KNOW I love it!!!
