Um wow, most year-to-year price increases are a couple hundred bucks at most. Why GM? Keeping it under that magical $30K mark was so powerful. Lame.

I think it is okay, that under $30k mark is going the way of the dinosaur as it is.

It was so close to the $30K mark in 2007, that any additional option would put you over anyway.

^Yeah, fully loaded it came out to about 31,500...As long as it's still in the ballpark of 30,000 I am still happy.

Maybe because once Camaro comes, it will no longer be the "Most Powerful car under 30k.".....Plus, they need to push out more of the V6's. The price difference wasn't enough to justify it. This should help.

what consumer likes a price increase? the car is still a great value, its still better and less expensive than any of its direct competitors, and far less expensive than european sedans with of similar size and performance.

Question

am i the only one here who thinks the GXP model is not worth the extra money for only 40 more horses? I mean the GT is what 360 and the GXP is 400 or so. i would rather have the GT and i was talking to 3 different pontiac people and they said the GT will be available with a 6 speed as well as a 'no cost option' like it was in the corvette in the past. Heck put a supercharger on the GT motor and you have over 400 hp right there!

G8 GXP is arriving 4th quarter, they have not released pricing but have said just under $40,000.

G8 GT with premium and sport pack is now over $33,000, so $39,995 for the GXP won't seem so outrageous.

This car is still a great bargain, a journalistic hit. I have read how the exchange rate between USA and Australia changed the profitabily of the G8. GM has said they need to be careful not to sell too many G8's due to the exchange rate. They also added Bluetooth and XM radio standard for 2009.

But - In the middle of soaring gas prices, worst economy in years, worst car sales in many, many years -bad move IMHO.

They have been making these 2009's since March, they are available for order now, let's see how they sell. The first batch of 2009's has about 3000 GT's.

I was thinking that way until I saw the 2009 price increase...

G8 GT w/ prem & sport pack $33,000 plus

If the GXP is $39,995 it looks more reasonable now. GXP includes prem & sport packs, Brembos, no-AFM LS3, different display in center of dash to replace ridiculous one in GT (priceless).

The 2009 GT's now available (some already built) have no 6-speed manuals. It may come later, but I personally have not seen that yet.

Nah, your missing the point... the GXP is more than just the motor upgrades.

First, the manual will NEVER be an option on the GT because of the Displacement On Demand feature of the engine... it needs to talk to the tranny to find out what gear your in to match it to the Load Conditions Table. If you suddenly dropped two gears in a manual, the DOD wouldn't be able to keep up.

Second, the engine upgrade is more than just horses... its opportunity. The LS3 is much better supported in the aftermarket and will handle mods easier (again due to the lack of DOD).

Third, the car has a TON of other upgrades: much bigger brakes, heavily upgraded suspension (with FULL adjustability of camber, caster, &toe), stiffer chassis (to due braces), lighter wheels, better tires, upgraded seats &steering wheel, different body kit (including front splitter) and a bunch of stuff that hasn't even been announced yet!

Its more than worth the extra $$$ if you ever think you might bring it to a track... but for carting groceries around... probably not.

There were 3331 GT's available for tagging (order) Wed May 28th

Right now, early Sat may 31st, there's only 1502 left. I guess raising the price didn't even slow demand down. Encouraging...
