CEL caused by k&n intake

i have a k&n after market cold air intake. I keep getting the CEL coming off and on here and there. But now has just styaed one. I had the local store read the code and its due to the intake sucking in too much air so its throwing the sensor off. If this ok for me to keep on driving with or should i buy that replacment sesnor that you can get at the GM store online to solve the CEL.. im assuming its messing with my fuel to air ratio...any suggestions..

A new sensor won't likely help. You're better off with a tune.

I would get a hold of K&N, they aren't supposed to throw codes, that's why I bought mine, never got a cel on my 6

Most likely an unmeasured air leak from the install. Just double check your install and make sure everything is snug down good

the other kits look more enclosed at the filter end. maybe a ram air effect is causing turbulence at the maf. other kits look dif. the kn has that 10deg elbow before the maf. other kits look straighter. i would put an extra piece of tubing inside the filter making the overall length longer or extending the filter farther. maybe put a piece of sheet metal bent around the forward side of the filter shielding it from a ram effect if its happening. testing dif stuff is kinda fun.

either a leak like stated above or the MAF is dirty.

+1 Agree with this right here. The filter may have been over oiled and some reached the MAF . Or greasy fingers got on the MAF during install of the MAF sensor .

X2, I'm thinking the battery needs to be unhooked..I did this before I installed my cold air intake(BBK)...I had a buddy who installed the k&n brand without unhooking the battery and got the CEL but later went away..

I say get a new maf and/or reinstall everything and see if anything wasn't tightened correctly. You don't need a tune just for the k&n air intake, believe me when I installed mine about 4 years ago, I also installed a jet chip maf as well and no problems. But a tune will help make everything work together better, but if I were you I would hold off on a tune till you get some headers.

ok i opened the hood and saw something that i think is causing this CEL.. the small tube that runs from the pipe of the intake to the back of the engine seems to have come loose.. so I'm thinking thats why the CEL had not gone away..before it would come on and go off which i was fine with..but this time it didn't go away.. I'm thinking it was due to this small skinny pipe that had come off.. will drive the car more tomorrow and see if it comes off.. either way i can order the new sensor because i know this was a known issue so that why they made this aftermarket sensor for the issue of the CEL..
