What is your first car related memory?
I thought it might be a fun thread for everyone to post what their first car related memory is from childhood.
Also if you want to, what do you remember getting you interested in cars and at what age? My first memory was probably when I was 3 or 4 years old, I can remember riding in the front seat of my dads 56 Chevy 210 at night. Looking at the instrument cluster and being amazed when the little bow tie would light up whenever he a would put the lights on bright. Funny though I may have been about 5 when I really got interested in cars, Chevy's in particular. Again with my Dad's 56 210, with a 265 V8 power pack with a powerglide. Whenever my dad would work on that car I would be there with him, handing him tools, helping clean parts in gasoline, and watching him put the car back together. Tune ups, valve adjustments, oil changes and brake jobs always fascinated me. He could make that car purr like you would't believe and he could do it all by the sounds of the engine. Anytime after that I could ask him anything about a car and he would know the answer. I sure miss him, he passed away in 2008 at the age of 88.

My uncle bought a junker 52 mercury that would pop the passenger door open on any random bump.
He almost lost my grandmother one day when I was sitting in the back seat and she was riding in the passenger seat. I was 3. |

My first memory of cars is riding in my grandpa's GMC opening bottles of Pepsi with the seat belts...we never actually wore them.

My dad had the 1st 1964 GTO in the Raleigh, N.C. area. He traded his 1962 Impala SS that I barely remember for it. I remember the burn outs and power shifting, pinning me back in the seat. I also remember us going on a trip to Fla. just after he got it and stopping at a motel and me climbing behind the wheel and turning the key and it hitting a brick wall as it lunged forward. Dad and the hotel clerk came running out and poor mom bore the wrath of a mad dad with a slightly scratched new GTO. I was 3 in 1964....

Sadly, my first car memory was wondering why my parents would ever want to buy a 69 Camaro RS, which my dad was considering. I was 7.
