I remember when Dodge released the Viper in 94'. The dealers were marking them up bigtime, asking in the $250K range and some people paid that! On a $74K MSRP.

I don't understand the over the top mark up. It takes a high roller to buy a car like that. I would think that a bank would only value a car at MSRP, so you would need some serious down payment. But hey, if you got it to spend, then spend it. Besides Dodge said that it will build as many Hellcats that they can sell, it's not a limited production car, and they would prefer a dealership not marking the car up.

The chevy dealers here in did when the Generation 5 came out. Not that much, but all of them wanted a extra 3500 above sticker.

oh and get this. He said I can order one if I like, with the 25K markup but upon ordering entry the car must be paid 100% in full.

Law of supply and demand. When the demand exceeds the supply, prices will be higher. When there is excess supply, the prices will fall. Right now there are those that just have to have one and be the first on their block. Nope. As much as I hate dealers for doing this, it is not uncommon at all. Quote:
I wasn't willing to pay the "market adjustment" they wanted. For those old enough to remember, Chrysler even did this on the PT Cruiser when it first arrived. As always, those with the most $$ get to play first.

Well you're talking about a 45-50k car with 4k markup vs. A 60k plus car with a 25k mark up that's definitely not a good comparison! 55k Camaro vs. A 90,000 challenger! 4k more reasonable 25k not reasonable...

Dodge warned dealers about this. If they mark them up, and they don't sell, the dealer won't get anymore allocations.
The allocations will be based on "speed" of sale.
