new recall on C7 corvette

From USA Today
Quote:
712 model-year 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes with optional Competition Sport Seats, because seat-mounted side airbags can inflate improperly, injuring unbelted children riding in the seat. Dealers will install a newly designed airbag. GM says it knows of no crashes or injuries, but owners should prohibit small children from riding in the seat.
Wouldn't they get hurt anyway if they are unbelted?

you got part of the recall notice, the other part is to bring the vehicle to Columbus Ohio for testing . just happens to be near one of my residences..ill even allow them to report to ft Lee, va for specialized testing . I know recalls aren't funny

...The current air bag design could bump an unbelted child into the ignition/switch/knee area, and shut off the car......Therefore, another re-call....

all of these recalls can be addressed with software, if the motor RPM <> 0, disable the FOB, if a passenger seat has a load > 5 lb and less than ?? and belt is or isn't locked..... Seems like a EPROM flash would be a lot cheaper. Nothing works without software anyways.

I bumped my knee on the trailer hitch of my truck (I was not wearing my seat belt ). It left a nasty bruise that probably affects my ability to press the brake hard enough when aggressive braking is needed. Ford needs to do a recall on that.

I am almost certain that if I drive unbelted, with a dagger 1/4" away from my eyeball, at 118 MPH, with a grenade that lost its pin one- one thousand, two- one thousand, three- one thousand ago, and a back seat filled with agitated fer- de- lances, whenever I drive straight into a wall, I could be injured.

Plus, it's hard to tell the difference between the brake pedal and the gas pedal, so sometimes when I try to stop, I drive at high speeds for about half an hour before my knee reaches up to the ignition and with a deft twist accidentally turns the car off, also a safety hazard. Holy crap... these things are death traps. Best to recall every car, and have every part replaced.

One more thought on this. How do you design an airbag that would make it safe for a child that is not wearing a seatbelt? If they can do that, why not make airbags that are safe for ANYONE not wearing seatbelts?

I know its completely stupid. Now if it injured a child while WEARING the seatbelt I can see a recall...
I bet those guys at the NHTSA are laughing their asses off...
