OnStar is only there as an assistance. I've never been bothered by OnStar at all in any of the cars I've had that had OnStar. Yeah when you first press the Blue Button after purchase they want you to buy a subscription for after your trial runs out but other than that, no problems at all.

Geez. I fear for the human race.

OnStar's main purpose is an emergency locator.

So people are worried that it can locate the car?

Duh.

Just wait until you find out about the event data recorder (Black Box). You'll have a stroke.

Good news is if you disable the EDR, it also stops the airbags from working. A double win!

I love your enthusiasm on trying to stop gov from spying on you. Sadly people do not realize that what you KNOW about is only a small tip of what they are really doing. CDs were from the 70's but only available to the public in the what? 90's? Cell phones were available in the 80's but available to the gov in the late 60's or early 70's? You may have a small wire bug implanted in your *ss right now without you even knowing it. Unless you are living without electronics in the woods in some small off the wall mountain range somewhere, personal details are always being collected. Don't sweat it

Why is the OP "licking" OnStar in the first place?

If I was afraid of Big Brother, there are many many things I'd destroy and/or stop using before I even touched OnStar.

I took what he said to mean that the people at OnStar are licking things, and that he does not agree with the practice.

I don't care for OnStar, either, but I wouldn't go so far as to disable it.

"A couple years ago, GM's remote safety service OnStar got into trouble over privacy concerns for both tracking physical location of vehicles and for collecting/selling consumer data to marketers, all while the federal government was a majority shareholder of the company."

I'd sooner trust OnStar than some sort of faux media outlet that can't properly use a comma.

Got news for you, OP and anyone else... if you ain't paying, OnStar could not care less where you are or what you're doing. No pay - no play. Just for kicks, if you are not subscribed to OnStar, push the blue button and see what happens.
