All the Ways to Open & Close Your Vert Top

All the Ways (electric) to Open & Close Your Vert Top

When I went to pick up my C7, I asked my dealer to instruct me in opening and closing the vert top. He first unsuccessfully tried the RKE Transmitter from outside the car. In looking at the manual, we successfully discovered that when outside the car, to lower the top, one first must press the open function and then immediately press and hold the lower top function. Instructions are on 2-28 of the manual. However, one may not close the top from outside the car using the RKE. Big problem!

From inside the car, one may lower and raise the top when the engine is on using the top up/down button on the left side of the dash.

So, how may one close the top from outside the car? The manual is not particularly helpful. It does say one may close the top in ACC/Accessory, but gives no further instructions. Can it be opened inside the car and/or outside the car, and if so, how? So one has it on ACC/Accessory, then what?

In searching every page of the manual, I found on page 9-20 regarding ACC/Accessory this: “ACC/Accessory (Amber indicator light): This mode allows the use of some electrical accessories when the engine is off. With the ignition off, pressing the button one time without the brake applied will place the ignition system in ACC/Accessory. The ignition will switch from ACC/Accessory to Off after five minutes to prevent battery rundown.”

OK, so is the “button” the start/stop ignition button? Will depressing it allow closing the top from outside the car? From outside the car with top down, I reached into the car and pressed the “button” one time with the ignition off. With the driver door open, there is a constant chime after pressing the start/stop button with ignition off, with the door closed (windows down), there is no chime. With the window up and door open, or the window down and door closed, I depressed the ignition start/stop button once, then depressed the open/close-top button on the left side of the dash, and closed the top from outside the car.

So, now, I can open/close the top from inside the car with ignition on, or off using the ACC/Accessory function. I can open the top from outside the car using the RKE Transmitter. I now also can close (and open) the top from outside the car using the ACC/Accessory function, and leaning in and activating the open/close-top button.

You all probably know all this, but in case you do not, this will help you raise the top when outside your C7.
