I didn't want to do it. But I had to!!

I work for a cement roof tile manufacturer. We stack tile on pallets and store them in our yard. Birds love to make nest and we have all kind of birds in the pallets but prey also attracts predators. Namely cats. We have all kinds of cats in our yard......and sometimes they look for shelter in our machines. Its a sure death for any cat looking for a place to sleep and unfortunately I've removed dismembered bodies on a few occasions. This day 2 small, maybe 6 month old, cats decided they were going to use our cure bays/ovens as shelter. Big mistake! They ran in as I was driving up to the bay. Think of it as an oven the size of 3 houses. Ya, big. They went in there and I tried to scare them out but they just went in deeper. Unfortunately, we rerun the rooms and production cannot stop. I tried to leave the room open as I could but I saw no cats run out. I can only hope they did when I wasn't there but I don't know. The boss signaled me to shut the room and, at that point, I had no choice. I shut the door and turned on the oven. If they were in there they would be cooked within minutes. I'm sorry to have to had done that and I can only hope the cats were not in there. Being the animal lover that I am will surely have me regretting this day for some time. It's unfortunate and the cats don't know any better but still it's going to be with me for a while.

I know, but it's just knowing a living being had to die that way. I'm getting soft in my old age.
Anyone have any testosterone?

Thanks for sharing and that is your first step in healing. It will feel like you should have done more, but you did all you could in the situation. You could request that the plant get a mascot, a cat-hating dog, or something to that effect that may be able to do the hard job of just keeping them away from places that are detrimental to their health. "Guard the oven, Rocko!"

So you serve ketchup up or A1 with cat?

That's terrible I know. I feel for you. Sometimes it happens. Like hitting a rabbit with your car. Nothing you can do about it really, but still feel bad.

Well at least I'll find out in a couple hours if they were in there or not. I had to be a body snatcher on two occasions. One cat crawled into one of our ovens and was left there over the weekend. Ugh, the stench! Another cat I had to remove had been there for quite some time and it sort of mended with the environment. I had to use tools to get the body out. It came out in pieces! Gross!

We've had a cat try to use the underside of one of our conveyor belts as a shelter. For all intents and purposes that would be a wonderful shelter as it's difficult to get in and out of. It wasn't until a week later during a scheduled run that we got a bunch of misalignment alarms. And upon investigation we discovered the poor creatures remains.
