Our Future In Space - National Space Society Kickstarter Project

As a huge fan of all things space related, I think one of the biggest hurtles our fledgling private space industry has is a lack of knowledge on the part of the general public. People don't seem to realize that much of what was once pure science fiction is quickly coming within reach of current technological capabilities. This video that the NSS wants to put together would go a long way in educating people about the huge potential the space industry has, the things we will be doing in the next few years with current technology, and the limitless possibilities it will open to Earth. Check it out and tell your friends about it

I really look forward to the next 20 years because of stuff like this.

I was born in the 60's, and grew up thinking we'd already be on the moon and expanding elsewhere. I'm glad private industry will be taking this over, however I'm disappointed that we lost so much time getting to this point.

I'm a youngin by your standards (born in 86, 4 days after the Challenger was lost actually) but as an avid proponent of space endeavors I know what you mean.

Moon Shmoon

1) There should be a "rover curiosity" type of vehicle on the moon right now sending us images that look just as fantastic as the ones we receive from mars. I do not care how many people say "the moon is irrelevant". Right now anyone should be able to log online and view a live camera mounted on the moon that is able to see EARTH in the same way you can see the Moon from earth. To me is is very ODD that something like this does not already exist right now. This would at LEAST show some kind of dominance in space that is fairly local. You could even refer to that camera on the moon as a small "moon base". To me the subject of the moon is ALWAYS DOWNPLAYED.

How you do DOWN PLAY the moon? The moon is basically the equivalent of another CONTINENT of earth that happens to be IN ORBIT around earth. You would think this would be something you would WANT to visit frequently and build bases, at least place communication equipment there, drop off something that looks like a small mobile home.

2) The movie "MOON" starring Sam Rockwell EXCELLENTLY DEPICTS what kind of moon base could be built there or already is there. Of course, "2001 a space oddessy" also depicts EXCELLENT MODERN interpretations of moon bases, or moon landing possibilities.

3) It is so STRANGE how there is no MODERN DISCUSSION about the moon. Soon 50 freaking years is going to go by and we are STILL going to be looking at all this old grainy footage of astronauts who supposedly walked there but go off into hiding and run out into the streets drunk and depressed with anguish after they get back. They even completely ignored Neil Armstrong when he died. No state funeral. Nothing. STRANGE. If he walked on the moon, he is one of the highest achieving humans to even exist and his death was completely IGNORED. THAT IS STRANGE and makes no SENSE. And i do not CARE how private a person he was.

4) AT LEAST DROP A ROBOT OFF ON THE MOON FOR CHRISTS SAKE. SHOW US SOME NEW close up pictures of the moons surface using 2013 technology.

man don't you read? the aliens told us to stay away the moon, it is theirs, they use it to spy on us and keep us out of intergalactic politics and activities..

jeez..

FWIW, I completely agree with your line of thinking, it makes one think that the Gov't has been hiding something serious about the moon for a long time.

If you read, check out a book called "Mother of Storms" by John Barnes. Had a very interesting take on what could be done on the moon and beyond.

So this awesome Kickstarter project only needs about $7,000 for their next stretch goal. Once they hit $55k they will send their video to the president, VP, and all members of congress to help enlighten them on the benefits of space travel and research. If you've got a spare $10, this is definitely a worthwhile cause to donate to.

Just a thought, who owns the moon? Columbus dicovers America and claims it for Spain. Did Neil Armstrong claim the moon for USA?

There is a UN treaty out there somewhere that basically says no one country can own anything outside of Earth. We'll see if that holds up with private companies getting into the space business, I have a feeling it will need to be updated a bit. Also, fixed the link.

Hey just noticed you're down in Albia, my wife is from Bussey
