MSNBC article: GM turns to Volt to revitalize its image

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31146562//

Hopefully not a repost - sorry if it is.

Seems like kind of a stretch to arrive at "GM has internal conflict" just because there was a Camaro in the airport gift shop as opposed to the Volt, but anyway....for your reading (dis)pleasure

GM hasn't been planning this car all along. They just came up with it to save them from going out of business.

GM needs to stop running around in circles like children and start fludding the market with camaros, if they wanted to make money there would be 4-8 camaros at every "good" chevy dealership.

They've made over 10,000 since March 14th. I'd say they're on track to hit they're goal of 80-100k this year. What's the problem?

all im saying is that for the demand that there is for this car, there is nowhere enough camaros out there. And GM is at fault for not taking advantage of it

When they were closing other plants for extra time, the Oshawa plant added a shift and overtime shifts. There really isn't anything else they can do. Plus, if they gave everyone a Camaro who wanted one tomorrow, they would be back to having no sales for months, and Toyota would be on top again. Is that what we want?

if you asked GM if they could sell that many camaros tomorrow they would do it in a heartbeat.

Limited and exclusive cars like lambos and such can get away with having like 8 dealerships if that in america, each with like 2 lambos because they move 300 cars a year. But its a bad thing when i can drive down ogden road and the lamborghini dealer has more stock then the 3 chevy dealers

Huh?

If you're joking, tell us. It sounds like you're serious.

So are you equaly pissed because there are no 2011 Honda Accords on the lots right now? CHEVY JUST STARTED the Camaro 2 1/2 months ago. Name another car that has produced 15000 cars in that time that are ALLREADY sold.

Nevermind, sorry. For a minute I thought you weren't joking.

The volt does nothing to peak my interest in a general motors product, the new Camaro and Corvette do.

I think the "VOLT" is just to keep those people that think global warming (oops they changed that to "Climate Change"), Al Gore loving, Tree Huggers happy!

Article ref camaro...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31146562/

An article talking about GM, and volt primarily, but referencing the Camaro in the opening paragraphs. You should read some of the comments and how ignorant they are regarding GM vs foriegn auto makers.

Particularly of interest to me was how wrong the "facts" are about how GM is marketing the Camaro. They said and I quote:

"One of GM's touted new automobiles sat on display in the center of the automaker's airport gift shop. It was not the coming electric car, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, championed by Bob Lutz, the GM executive most identified with the Hail Mary that the vehicle represents for the bankrupt company, which faces the immediate future as a ward of the federal government. It was not one of the relatively new GM hybrids. It was not even a mid-level sedan called the Chevy Malibu, which has received flattering reviews and awards, in part for its better-than-average fuel economy.

It was instead a car that flies in the face of all the worries about the American automotive industry, all the calls to make it more environmentally responsible and therefore more viable: the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS with a V-8 engine, General Motors' version of the fast and powerful model that automobile enthusiasts commonly call a muscle car.

With an estimated 25 miles per gallon on the highway, the 400-plus-horsepower Camaro SS is not a car renowned for being fuel-efficient. It is another Bob Lutz car, a monument to Lutz's and GM's enduring hope that even as the company struggles to escape bankruptcy as a smaller, leaner producer of fuel-efficient vehicles, the glory days can somehow be resurrected. "

Unfortunately, unless they've changed it since May when I was there last, the vehicle in that gift shop they refer to is a V6 that gets 29MPG

I hate crap like this.

Probably one of the worst:

We can still have "car enthusiasts", but we can regulate them. Let them collect their cars, but register them -- and don't allow them on the street except to go to a mechanic for repair, etc.

But, a lot of back-n-forth from both sides, after only reading a page of the comments.

What was somewhat interesting/disheartening was even Lutz seems to feel that the Camaro/Corvette/Cadillac will be legislated away.:(
