Why was that ship out there? This storm has been brewing for more than a week. Why would they sail right into it?

I'm sure we'll find out over the next week or two, but they were speculating that they had decided the ship wouldn't survive where it was and those that went with it were trying to save it.

I'm thinking somebody didn't want to own a 3 masted sailing ship anymore.

Ted Turner owns(owned) it...

Reading up on it, it looks like they were headed east to avoid the storm, however a generator failed, so water couldn't be pumped off the boat fast enough.

It's quite possible that without the generator failure, they could have gotten the ship east far enough to avoid the storm, however it was pretty risky with a ship like that.

We'll know more on what happened in the days to come...I guess the captain and a crewman named Christian (Bouty, remember) are still missing.

They told anyone in the docks to get away from the shore lines and to get out to sea. They didn't want the boats flying up into the shores and destroying things.

I'm still not buying it. They could have made safe harbor at several locations along the east coast.
