My project car code named project Malibu RS

Thought I would share my current project car.

It's a 72 Chevelle Malibu, I picked it up a few months ago from the 2nd owner that had owned it since 1982 for $800 . Runs/Drives. Currently has a 283/TH350. Very straight, mostly rust free, couple small spots in the quarters, no big deal.

I thought it might be cool to create what I would deem a "Malibu RS" package as there wasn't one available, and I have no desire to make an SS clone... "RS" ideas include a slight update to the appearance (HID head lights, graft in 69 Camaro turn signals into the bumper to use as fog lights/DRL's, SS hood, "hide-a-way" head lamp covers, custom tail lamp lenses, LED tail lights.), and of course upgraded suspension/drive train.

Drive train plans: 355 ci engine, with a forged Eagle rotating assembly, Sportsman II heads, Comp 12-250-3 (.240/.246 dur, .507/.510 lift), 1.7/1.6 Roller rockers, 10.5:1 CR... EFI powered by MegaSquirt. I plan to run a built 200-4r transmission, 12 bolt rear w/ 3.73's.

Intake setup.

Working MegaSquirt II v3.0 built by myself.

Goals for the car are to be able to get in and drive it anywhere, get decent gas mileage with the EFI, and be reasonably quick. I work on it when I have time, which is not as often as I'd like... Currently assembling the heads, and engine.

Constructive criticism, and comments are welcome!

cool project, my first car was a 72 malibu, orange with white vinyl top.

i built a pretty stout 350 in auto shop, ported "camel backs" and a 350HP 327 vette cam, thing screamed!!

also always wanted to do an RS type version on a 66-67 chevelle.

Looks like a cool idea! My dad had 2 1972 Chevelles before I was even thought of. I always wished he would have kept at least one, but everyone has those purchases/cars that they should have kept I suppose. For a build TH2004r I'm planning on going with C.K. Performance for my 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix project. Just throwing it out there for ya if you haven't already found a place.

Keep us posted on the project though.
