Should GM rebadge the G8 as the next Impala?

Looking for everyone's input here. I hope everyone agrees with me that the G8 would make a great Impala (loose the nostrils). I would hate to see the G8 live on solely in Australia. Is anyone else tired of large front wheel drive sedans??

On a side note, It would also be nice to see GM rebadge the Solstice / Sky twins to possibly a Cadillac. I know one of the downsides they were having with them was slim profit margins, so that move with some upgrades could justify a higher price.

Not really. It would cost GM too much money to move and retool the Impala factory which they can't afford atm and they already have plans on the 2010 MY and I doubt they will be out of the predicament in time to achieve this for the 2011 MY. If they wait much longer then the G8 becomes outdated body style and is less likely to sell.

Personally I would like to see the Solstice/Sky done as a Chevy. It just doesn't fit the image of a Caddy imo.

I would love to see it happen. Hell of a lot better than seeing the current W-body Impala last until 2013 and have to wait until 2015 or 2016 for the Alpha Impala.

Until then, Taurus is going to murder Impala...

I think that GM needs to do something with the Wbody Impala. It has a horrible ride compared to the new Malibu and pretty outdated styling and the interior is blah.

This looks great IMHO.

It was rebadged as a Pontiac, slap whatever decal you want on it.

Except - Holden....

Why not just build them at the plant where they are built now? Change the front clip and badging there would be cheaper than re-tooling the current Impala plant...

Because they are built in Australia and imported. That's why they cost so dang much. In order to make them affordable like the Impala they would need to make them here.

Oshawa already builds the same chasis as the Commodore. With some modification it may be possible to build the Impalas there or they could continue to import them from Australia. The ones in the Middle East look great. A huge step up from the American FWD Impala.

If I were to buy a car right now, I'd have a tough time deciding between the Camaro and the G8. The Camaro appeals to my emotions more, and I like it for its unique, distinctive, aggressive style, but the G8 is far more practical, almost as sporty, and more respectable, which would be good for meeting with clients - sophisticated, but not overpriced.

Since I can't buy for a few years, if GM doesn't rebadge the G8 as the Impala I'll either get a Camaro or go outside GM. If they do rebadge it, my choices would almost certainly come down to a Camaro or Impala. I really hope they do rebadge it. It is such a nice car, and even the import fanboys I know respect it and say if GM built all its cars like that, they'd be all for GM.

They need to at least reconfigure the screen for navigation...
