New Barracuda info

Some drawings of the new SRT Barracuda and some information. I have been hearing that Dodge may very well still build the Challenger at one plant and the Barracuda in another like this article suggests. Also I have found a video on youtube where Ralph Gilles is the guest and a caller asked him if the Challenger was going away since he had heard rumors of a new Barracuda replacing it and he said the Challenger wasnt going anywhere anytime soon. So looks like they may have 2 pony cars to choose from next gen. Also it looks like SRT will have a 6.2L in the new Barracuda to make a variant to compete against the ZL1 & GT500 next gen. They say the next Cuda will be on a new lighter Alfa Romeo chassis to compete with BMW so looks like all 3 of the ponys will take on BMWs with ease as well. The new Cuda could be out the end of 2013 according to the article to get a jump on the new Mustang which will follow in 2014 as a 2015 model and then the 6th gen Camaro in 2015 as a 2016 model. So it looks like no matter what brand you descide on next gen they are all going to be lighter with good numbers and high horse power variants it will come down to a persons style and looks preference. Cant wait to see a comparision with the top models of all three battling it out.http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/barracuda.html

I can't wait and think it would be awesome to have Challenger, Cuda, and Charger sharing a lot together. Something I read in Motor Trend I find interesting is that the platform is a brand new platform codeveloped with fiat and Chrysler. THey said it would underpin the Cuda and one other Chrysler model, possibly a RWD replacement for the 200. Also a number of Alfas will get this platform. Things are getting really interesting.

This gen was only a training round between the big three. Next gen will be the main event because all bets are going to be off all three will weigh significantly less lbs and all three will have new futuristic edgy designs its all going to come down to who will have the better styling and more efficient engines and tech behind the cars. Weight will not be an issue anymore as we have right now its going to be nearly dead even weight wise unless one comes with a special carbon fiber edition never know. There may be one that has 50lbs more or less than the other but it shouldnt hinder the cars alot. Gone will be the 100 & 200lb weight advantages. Sales wise this segment will be the most competitive it has been in years.

not exactly "new" info, this article has been around for a few months I'm pretty sure, not to mention 90% of the article is pure speculation. The drawings are just fan art.

A Cuda that has a similar front end to the Challenger would be the bomb.

I've been saying the same for awhile and I agree very much. If the rumors about the Mustang losing up to a few hundred lbs off its current cars are true, then it may still have the weight advantage, even when Camaro goes Alpha...in which case the base Camaro could be at 3,400 lbs and an SS somewhere between 3,500 to 3,600.

But still, with weight like that and the kind of power numbers we are getting now days, the next gen of pony cars are going to eclipse today's standands for sure. Handling and feel should be great because of the reduction in size and weight, and straight line acceleration should be better as well...easily better if they give us engines with the same output as we have today. There would be no need to increase engine power when you have a better handling, lighter car.

Even the base cars are going to be damn quick, and I can't imagine what they would do with ZL1 and GT500-like power in a ligher car.

But first and foremost is the styling...if it doesn't look good it won't matter how it runs.

Bring on the next gens....I can't wait!

Since Plymouth no longer exists, how can Chrysler be thinking about a Barracuda?
What are they going to call it? Dodge barracuda?

Isn't the Viper going to be called an SRT Viper?

I'm glad to see that the Challenger is not going anywhere soon. I would be sad to see the Challenger go.

I like the one at the bottom of the page, lol. My mom had a '66 cuda, 3 on the tree, slant 6, bright red clunker. Now the neighbor was a totally different story. Had a '64 (pretty sure) Chrysler 300 with a 413 wedge cross ram. The thing never did run right......just sat out in the weather, year after year. Sure wish I was older then. To have gotten my hands on the motor alone........I still shiver.

The rumor I have seen is that the new engine in the 6th Gen SS may very well be the base engine in the C7 Vette some have been saying it will be a 5.5 liter with 440-450hp.
