LS3 or L99

So I'm new to all of this forum stuff. And I know this ? Has came up already. But I'm in the market for a new camaro. I wanna know which would be a better buy and a satisfing DD for a young diesel mechanic that drives big rigs half the day at work. The L99 or the LS3. I've already driven booth and I feel more raw power and fun out of the LS3 but kinda not loving the clutch to much and it would be my first standard I drive everyday. The L99 is somewhat kool and fun to drive on the highway but I dnt get the same rush from the LS3 but it I do kinda see how its quicker from a stand still? And how r these things in rain. My buddy has new 5.0 but this thing is kinda sketchy in rain and over lil bumps at high speeds. Any information would be more than helpful.

Thanks BIG D

My take for the ls3. I just turned over 4xxx, been my daily for about a month and rain on and off for 2 weeks. It took a few days for me to get used to the clutch but once I got used to it and with the factory hurst it will become one with you, the shifts are alittle notchy but firm and quick. My commute is 130 miles round trip with mostly highway and about 3 miles of winding roads. I can move in and out of traffic with ease keeping it in the sweet spot (4 to 5 grand) range. I just am getting used to down shifting being aggressive with it, re: shifting from 6th or 5th gear to a lower gear without being at the rev limiter etc... As far as handling corners it feels solid at higher speeds with alittle dipping here and there but only when braking hard. Haven't had any problems in the rain, but I drive for conditions and definetly don't want to wreck my ride. I have always driven trucks and this is my 1st car and I love the power.
I went with the manual because it's fun going through the gears and is rated higher in HP over the automatic.

Both have there pro's and cons, i chose the manual because i grew up in the sixties and back then most everyone had to have a 4 speed in there muscle cars, so ofcourse when the Gen 5 Camaro came out it was a no-brainer for me, and besides that its over $1000.00 cheaper than the auto and you gain a few more ponies to boot. The only con for me personally with my manual is in stop and go traffic. You won't be disappointed in either one. I mean come on, its a Camaro Lol

Pros and cons to both, I have a L99. I love walking away from from Mustangs and many LS3 Camaros. They are to busy spinning their tires off the line and missing gears.

Plus if getting a 2012 or 2013 the paddle shifters are allot nicer than the 2010 and 2011. But you can still shift gears if you want the more control of when it shifts.

countryboy806, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Having had both, I think the L99 was more reliable, performancewise. I could run the 1/4 mile with times within 10/100s of a second of each run all day long. In the LS3 there are so many variables that consistency eludes the best of drivers. If you're interested in performance differences between the two cars, have a look at this video of two cars with basically the same mods, one an LS3 and the other an L99: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...20#post5029120
