Help! Sun burn with unbearable itching.

I have tried everything and nothing is working. I am about to go to the ER because this itching is just soooo unbearable. I've probably taken enough tylonal to kill a small person. I have used itching spray and aloe. Any ideas? Yeah, posting on a car forum about sun burn...obviously I am desperate.

Wife had this problem about a month ago. It may sound weird, but take a hot shower, get all the crap you have put on your back off, then lay on a heating pad. You have what is known as the "Hell itch". You need to use heat to help the itching.

Here is a nice link to people discussing the problem.

If you go to the ER they are seriously going to laugh at you. Higher dose benadryl and aloe are the best OTC choices. They may try steroids, but most likely antihistamines and deal with it is what you'll be told.

vinegar poured on a towel will work. Place a towel over your burn and have somebody pour white vinegar over the towel. It will soothe the burn and cool you. It works.

Seriously, google vinegar and sunburns. It works very effectively. Hot water may make the burn worse.

Well it's starting to heal so hot water won't hurt it. I am at work so I can't get to vineger or I would try it. I do have a shower at work though so I will give the hot water a try. If it does make it worse though I may just take my five seven out of my duty belt and shoot myself >.<
