It's amazing to think about the types of Pony/Muscle cars we will have from the big three American automakers in the next 4 to 5 years time. A stock pony car will likely be faster than a BMW M3 likely. The 6th gen Mustang will be lighter than the current version with independent rear suspension added. The 6th gen Camaro will be riding on the much lighter alpha platform that the Cadillac ATS will be on that is challenging the BMW 3 Series. And then theres the wild card with what Dodge / Chrystler will be offering according to this article below and other reports along sites they are going to nix the Dodge Challenger and bring the Barracuda back as part of their new SRT division to go along with their new SRT Viper. According to this article Chrystler wants a new lighter platform to challenge BMW and according to this article the new SRT Barracuda will be much lighter than the current challenger with possible Alfa Romeo and Fiat under pinnings. To say that the Pony wars are going to get interesting would be an understatement and the Mustangs light weight advantage is basically going to be null & void. Its going to come down to which car design and looks wise that people will prefer. Performance wise these cars will be closer than ever before.
