Painting question.

When painting something other than a car, do you have to apply primer? Or can you just sand it and paint it? I'm painting a light switch cover that goes on my wall.

Just sand it with 320 grit to scuff it up and paint it. No need for primer. Primer is for metal basically and is more for corrosion purposes. Most cars are 4 part (primer, sealer, paint and clear) systems and its the sealer that paint sticks to. But in this case, scuffing it up and painting is good enough.
