Camera help

I've been looking around at new Cameras and it looks like the Canon T3i Rebel 18mp is where it's at.

Does anyone have any experience with it?

Anyone know of a good place to buy?

What would be a good price?

I found this link where it appeared to be price $200 lower than anywhere else....at $625.

It's a big purchase...and we've been wanting a GOOD camera for a long, long time.

Thoughts?

That's a good price for the kit ... I can't say much about the camera other than it's good. I've moved beyond the Rebel Series and now shoot a 5D. I will tell you the camera body is only as good as the glass on the front. The glass (lens) is a very basic entry level. The Rebel cameras will shoot some awesome pictures when mated with a " L " series lens. I would also recommend a battery grip with an extra battery (2 total), and you will be able to shoot all day. As for memory cards go, I prefer 8Gb high speed cards. I don't like to put all my shots on one big card, just in case something happens you won't loose everything when using several cards.

Hi Tag. I bought one several months ago, right after it came out. I love it. The normal lens that come with it is a tad cheap, but gets the job done until you try out a better one. I went with the 60MM macro USM which is about $425-$500. That's a stiff swallow, but you will come to understand what you need.

In my case, I take alot of face portraits and musical instrument shots, so it's perfect.

I'm just getting my photography skill set back after dumping my 35mm film stuff for cheap digital snapshooters quite a long time ago.

I can't help on best price, but that's a hell of alot less than I paid. Is that just the body???. I paid about $900 at a local boutique camera store...I might could have saved maybe $50 plus tax otherwise at the time.

As already mentioned, lenses are more important that the body they're attached to. One thing worth mentioning is the size of the camera body. The Rebel series bodies are smaller than the xxD and xD bodies. If you haven't already done so, go to a local shop and pick one up and make sure it will be comfortable in your hand. As far as where to buy, have a look at bhphotovideo.com.

I have a T2i and LOVE it (previous model to the T3i). stills or video, it rocks. That price in that link seems too low, but it does say w/ lens.

I shot this music video with it...

One thing that concerns me... 18MP?

The MP Myth

Camera sensors can only handle so much. After a point, too many MPs actually degrade the quality of your photos.

I'm just over my acceptable limit at 12MP on my D300s (I try to cap it at around 10MP), but there were some features that outweighed possible degradation.

There's a lot of reading on this info. If you're going to drop a pretty penny on a camera, get one that you know you'll be happy with.

Oh, and buy a Nikon.

ETA:

OH, and while it is commonly accepted that glass is more important than body... that's not necessarily true. A great lens is worthless without a great sensor to receive it. So don't assume that you can take a hit on the body and make up for it in the lens. The two MUST work together. It's as simple as being as strong as the weakest link. It doesn't matter if a I have a 1200HP engine if my transmission can only handle 400HP.

So what kind of Nikon would y'all recommend?

I want something that I basically don't have to worry about replacing in 4 years. In other words, I want a NICE camera. I want it to take AWESOMELY PERFECT PICTURES...and video would be cool too. But, I want quality. Being able to take several high quality photos rapidly is also important.

hey...I'm open to possibilities.

So, suggest away.

Thanks

First, I'm going to just say...get Nikon.

This was $750 on NewEgg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16830113324

You're probably not looking in this price range, but I've had my Nikon D90 now for 2 years, and it is an amazing camera. It does video, as might the camera listed above. Didn't check that though...

D90 is out of stock at NewEgg, but is at Amazon for a little over $1000. I'd also think about dumping another 500-600 for a good telephoto lens at some point. Nikkor lenses rock! Camera lenses are like modding Camaros.

What's your budget? Does it include accessories or new lenses? Do you have a brand preference or are you willing to let us Nikon fanbois make suggestions?

Before my D300s I had a D80. I loved it. The only problem I had with it was dust on the sensor - but that was caused by dust getting trapped on the outside of my larger lens (70-300mm) and getting blown back inside when compressing the lens.

Best thing I recommend... read. Read until your eyes hurt, your brain is smoking, and the last thing you want to do is think about cameras because you feel like you know everything already. I put a solid 80 - 90 hours of steady research and reading before I dropped $1400 on a body. That was spread over a few weeks of course, but still...

Educate yourself. Google review sites. Find photography forums and see what people say about their cameras. Go to the stores and play with some. How does it feel in your hand? It needs to feel natural when shooting.

Find the camera that's right for you. Good luck!

I will tell you the only thing I do know Tag. Nikon and Canon guys do NOT get along. Thats like mac vs. pc. You'll never get a straight answer out of any of them.

That being said, my dad has a Canon, my sister has a Canon, my brother has a Nikon, and I have a Canon . We all love our cameras. They all take great pics.

yeah....I was thinking more like chevy vs ford, big block vs small block, turbo vs supercharger.

From what I've seen, canons are a little more user friendly and easier to learn (better for newbies), but the lenses are more expensive (especially for the pro-level ones). They'll all take great pix. Canon is a little better for video.

I have a Canon and a Nikon. I like the Nikon better. main reason being that, when Canon comes out with a new model, they don't make it compatible with the old lenses. I can't get new lenses for my old Canon. My Nikon, on the other hand, can be used with both old and new lenses. Both do take great pics, but if you have to buy an upgraded model every few years, seems like a waste...
