Just heard on Fox from Stuart Varney: Govt is telling GM to kill the Volt along with 11 of it's 20 most profitable vehicles. Which 11; trucks and SUVs. Varney's take: political considerations will now override economics. GM will be forced to build small, fuel efficient vehicles that the government wants us to drive.
My opinion now. Question is, how are they going to force us to buy them? Rest assured, there will be "force" of some kind.

Aparently they think that the 40K price tag was a proving point that "GM doesn't know what the hell it's doing, move over.."

..Regardless of the fact that they're redeveloping most of this tech from scratch. And that R&D costs..I dunno..money? Yeah. They want something now.. regardless of how advanced it is. Still loving my Rolaids stock.. -_-

IF GM were to shutter GMC, and only build Chevrolet Trucks (and Cars of course), where is the down side?
I too do not agree that the Gov't should be making these decisions, but when you have:
Enclave, Traverse, Arcadia, Outlook, all cross competing, maybe a leaner meaner GM is not that bad.
The list goes on, and on... The new Malibu (which is great), took many sales, I am sure from the Aura...
Ford Markets their Ford, and Lincoln line, Toyota= Toyota, Lexus, GM: GMC, Pontiac, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Saturn...
Every Interior difference, and Sheetmetal, and front fascia, and rear, all carry huge devolpment costs.
Something to consider, is all I'm saying...
*yes, I know Mercury is part of the FMC, but they are a none factor... without an independant dealer network...

Many here have been saying that for a while now. But seriously, what's so wrong about offering a Yukon, Denali, Suburban, Tahoe and Escalade?

Its a good thing the government can print money, otherwise they would be bankrupt as well. Not so sure they know the best thing for GM. Maybe let it go under, break it up, and find some investors. But dont let the government decide the model lineup...

We live in Americia, we should make our own choices and so should GM what to build , when we get GOV intervention calling the shots we will be no different than a communist country.

im getting tired though of GM made to look like its the bad guy. Like Ford is building what customers want. All they built the last ddecade was trucks. I dont even think they had a viable car until the fusion or 500.

It's really about whether or not a company can survive on it's own or not. Ford has not asked for a dime so as far as I am concerned, they can go on building whatever they believe will make the company prosper.

Definitely a valid point. It was their choice which is now enslaving GM to the government. Regardless, I wouldn't say that the current administration has to force a change in product line up and, considering the definition of democracy, they don't seem to be doing so democratically.
