The Seattle Police Department's Media Officer Sgt. Sean Whitcomb says one of the goals of the tweet-a-thon is to heighten the awareness of the hard work done at the SPD day in and day out.

“We respond to hundreds of thousands of calls a year, and that’s one of the things we mention every chance we get, but for a lot of people it’s hard to visualize that," said Sgt. Whitcomb. "When you take a 12 hour time period and you tweet every police event, when you see it on a news feed, you’re going ‘wow,’ the police department in this city is doing a lot of work.”

Pay special attention to this part...

Tuesday's tweets are going out manually from people in the SPD's communication department.

In other words, the tweets don't come from officers who are working hard to take care of all the calls that keep coming out.

If you don't think the PD already has enough to do, try going on a ride along sometime with an officer that works your area. I think you'll gain a whole new found respect for those that work hard to protect you, your family, and your property.
