The Challenger might not pack all that much of a bite
I posted a couple of times were I saw in the new 2008 car buying guide from Motortrend that the new Challenger would only have a 5.7L hemi and the 6.1L hemi from the SRT-8s.
That means the Challenger will only have 340hp and 425hp respectively. From a 4000lb car that is going to be quick, but not anything mind blowing. Here is an article that seems to back up my claim. http://www.planetchallenger.com/conc...er-070821.html That means that the possible LS3 Camaro will have comparable power output, but most likely a better power to weight ratio. I think that also means that the people buying Challengers will be the ones who are those who have a particular attachment or loyalty to dodge or challengers. |

We all know that the LSx engines are under-rated; let's get real about that. I don't know about the Hemi's. So yeah, that, on top of weight, the Camaro will win.
But what's this about the Challenger's pricing? Taken from the same link: Quote:

Yeah I think the only Challenger that will be priced just above the mustang will be the 5.7L Hemi that has 340hp.
That particular hemi will have performance comparable to the current Charger R/T which is typically slower than the current Mustang GT. The 6.1L hemi will be needed to come even close an LS3 Camaro, but will be more expensive than a typical Mustang as well. |

Price was one of the reasons I had written off the challenger (I like the looks and I am a dodge fan as well as gm).. But if dodge can offer the challenger at the same price level as a Mustang GT AND offer enough actual units (IE No dealer markup) than I might have a contender for my driveway..
So far the camaro still has the edge because i think its a more unique vehicle and will definitely be a better performer/price.. But if the price is right.. I have always dreamed of owning a cuda and this would probably be as close as I can get with it.. hmmmm decisions decisions.. NEED MORE INFO!!

The Charger is Huge, though - I'm sure that takes a toll on Performance v. Mustang. That 5.7 Hemi is the Would-be contender for the L76
...and the 6.1L (or whatever it is) Hemi is the quote "LSx fighter". That was taken from that link as well (paraphrased). That's the Hitch with Chryslers...I've never had a Huge problem with them, having owned (me and my parents at various times)...but there Powertrains are wonderful - they last, real, real long. But the bodies of each model rust in the exact same places as other vehicles in that model lineup. Overall, I rate Chrysler with the same grade I give Ford.

No problems with rust here .. and my dodge is an 04... on the other hand I live in Arizona.. like 1 inch of rain a year
Oh and if I had bought any new car and it had rust within the first year I would return it directly to the dealer..ANY CAR..rust means it has sat on the lot long enough for the paint to wear through.. PS please don't compare ford to chrysler.. ford has had quality issues with every vehicle Ive owned.. (everyone has thier own experiences and opinions.. fords just been my bad ones.. well besides isuzu)

The only dodge owners I know besides myself are about 6 people. 4 have had durango transmissions go out at 27k miles. My stepsisters neon has had a dnew problem every 2 months or less. I'm the only one with a dodge engine that has lasted, but it's porbably cuz the car's a mitsubishi. I'm going on 145k miles without any problems whatsoever besides a check engine light which was inspected and found to be a silly thing that doesn't need replacement. |

There is also a lot of speculation of a 6.4L (392) the following year because of what "people in the know" have been saying and because they've been parading one around for the past year. There is also a blown 392 they've been letting reporters drag (when one reporter asked what would happen if he broke it, the DCX development guy laughed and said that they'd just build another one). The 6.4L would be the converted crate engine. In crate form it makes 525 HP and 510 lb/ft at 10.5:1 compression. Because of emissions and what not it is expected to make 505 HP in production form. Some of them are already talking about an Indy stroker kit (for the 6.1L) that will take it up to a 7.0L (426) putting out 565 HP and 600 lb/ft. I love the way they look, but I agree that they will most likely be too heavy (though they are aware of the issue and working to address it). Plus, because of the compression, the Hemi's don't seem to lend themselves to forced induction (of which I am a big fan). |

i've watched the caravan transmitions die over and over. Durango trans die... and all of the well tenders around here HAD dodge trucks. transmission is the weakest link in them that and some suspension in a few year models that was sort of recalled.
