Unhappy AC in my car died, DAMN!

I was driving my car and all of a sudden the vents stopped blowing cold air, took it to a shop that my body guy recommended to get it checked. found out it is the condenser and looking at about 400 bucks parts and labor. I can get the condenser through the same body guy that referred me but the damn thing is on the OTHER side of the radiator (the side that faces towards the front) . anybody ever do a condenser swap in the Monte/Impala before? I am not worried about any refrigerant escaping as there is NONE in my system (it leaked out of the damaged part) I have a few cans of coolant and the cable to connect it to the system, so recharging it after the replacement is no problem. if it is THAT hard to do, am I better off paying the 400 bones to have the shop do it?

if you feel you can do the job then go for it...worse case would be you get into it and see you cant do it and bring it to the shop.

Any time you open the system you need to pull a vacuum before you put a fresh load of freon in. Best to let professional do it. Just my 2 cents.

Just because you can purchase freon doesn't mean you know what your doing. You should also replace the drier and you must pull a vacuum down to at least 700 microns and that vacuum must hold before you weigh in the proper about of freon.

Also legally you must be certified to perform work on a refrigeration system. Check out section 608 of the clean air act.

Get a pro if you want it done correctly.
